Betty Patricia Bumphus, a remarkable woman and a beacon of Love, passed away on March 12, 2024, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 78. Betty Bumphus of McAlester, Oklahoma passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 in Oklahoma City at the age of 78. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2024 at Mt. Triumph Baptist Church, 408 E. Wyandotte Ave, McAlester, Oklahoma. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Dream City, 124 V Hubert Smith Drive, McAlester, OK The burial will follow at North Town Cemetery in McAlester, Oklahoma. Betty was born on September 7, 1945, in McAlester, Oklahoma, to Ruby Bell Penix and Larry E. Elmore. Herman Penix Sr. was blessed to be able to raise Betty. Betty was the heart of the Bumphus family, a wife to James Bumphus, whom she married in 1965, and a had three beautiful children from this union Sheila, Ronda, Wanda Bumphus. Betty was later blessed with the gifts of Brenda, Mark and Dewayne Bumphus to Mack Rhodes. Betty proudly walked the halls of L'ouverture High School and graduated in 1963. Her career path led her to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), where she touched the lives of many with her gentle care and unwavering kindness. Later, she joined the workforce at Rockwell, where she was a dedicated assembly line worker. Betty's legacy is not only in the work she did but also in the community she built. Her involvement in various associations demonstrated her belief in the power of unity and support. She was President of Her Church choir. She was a member of the Pittsburg County Holiday Commission. She was a member of L'ouverture High School Reunion Committee. She nurtured friendships and alliances with the same care and attention she gave to her family. Those who knew Betty will recall her as loving, funny, and faith-filled. She had an uncanny ability to lift spirits with her humor and to provide solace with her unwavering faith. Her laughter was a common sound at family gatherings, and her prayers were a comforting whisper in times of need. Betty's love extended beyond her immediate family to encompass all those who had the pleasure of crossing paths with her. Betty's life was a testament to the joy that can be found in simplicity and the strength that is born out of faith. Her family takes comfort in knowing that her spirit will continue to guide them, as it always has, through the memories they hold dear and the love she instilled in each of them. Betty Patricia Bumphus' story is one of a life well-lived and a woman well-loved. Her departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew her, but they are consoled by the thought that she is now at peace. Betty's family will carry forward her legacy of love, laughter, and faith, honoring her memory in every kind act and every shared smile. As the sun sets on the life of Betty Patricia Bumphus, we celebrate the light she brought into this world. Her journey on earth has ended, but her impact remains, etched in the lives of her family, friends, and all who were graced by her presence. Betty's story does not end here; it lives on in the hearts of those she loved. Betty left to remember her life, siblings, Billie Washington of McAlester, Oklahoma, Cherrie Bell and husband Robert of San Diego, James Elmore and wife Gloria, Roy Elmore and wife Jackie, Herman Penix Jr., and Jack Elmore all of Kansas. Her children, Sheila Bumphus, Ronda Bumphus of McAlester, and Dewayne Bumphus of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Wanda Bumphus of Atlanta, Texas, and grandchildren, Erica, Eric, Marcus, Equilla, Gena, Makaya, Christopher, Christian, Mason, Taylor, Gracane, Noah, Isaiah, Dewayne, 23 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Michael Penix and Ronald Penix, her son, Mark Bumphus, daughter Brenda Bumphus and granddaughter, ReSheena Bumphus who no doubt welcomed her with open arms.
