Janice C. Young, 65, of McAlester, died Thursday, March 26, 2015 at her residence. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 30 at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery with Mr. Bill Lindenau officiating. Service arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service. Janice was born April 19, 1949 in Bakersfield, California, the daughter of Alvie & Helen (Holden) Blackwood. She graduated from McAlester High School in the class of 1967 and continued her education, enrolling in paralegal school in 1969 at the University of Oklahoma. Janice married Kendall G. Young on May 9, 1969 in McAlester. She began her lifelong career as a legal secretary for Jim Bratton, later working in the law offices of Thomas Bartheld and Jim Wadley. After Tom was elected as Associate District Judge of Pittsburg County, she worked at the Pittsburg County Court House as secretary and court clerk. Janice also worked in the Pittsburg County Commissioner’s office as first deputy until her retirement in 2011. She enjoyed working puzzle books, but her greatest joy was taking care of her grandchildren, Marco and Luca. Survivors include her husband: Kendall G. Young of the home; son & daughter-in-law: Dustin & Lisa Young of McAlester; grandchildren: Marco Young of McAlester, Luca Young of McAlester; sister: Vickie Tedrick of McAlester; aunt: Florence Ferrell of McAlester and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter: Charlotte Young, mother: Helen Blackwood, father: Alvie Blackwood, brother: Dennis Blackwood, sisters: Linda Scott and Charlotte Blackwood, and mother-in-law and father-in-law: Roy & Sue Young. Pallbearers will be Wayne Gann, Mitch Bisaner, Mike Brown, Joe Beck, Billie Frank Cobb, Paul Cortassa, and Barney Jordan. Honorary pallbearers will be Charlie Naush, Leon Baker, Lynn Barlow, Paul Watkins.
