Wanda Joy Shaw, 83, of McAlester, passed away Thursday, July 6, 2023 at her home in McAlester. Viewing will be Sunday, July 9, at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. Graveside funeral services are scheduled for Monday, July 10, at 2:30 p.m. at Memory Gardens Memorial Park. Wanda Shaw was born on May 29, 1940 in Dallas, Texas to Nolan Toms and Georgia (Middleton) Toms. Wanda's family moved to San Diego when she was young and that's where she grew up. She married James Shaw on April 17, 1964 and in 1977 they made their home in McAlester. Wanda worked at the Youth Emergency Shelter for several years, but her real calling was as a wife and mother, and a very good one. Wanda loved to read, and was particularly proud to be "Nana", and loved spending time with her grandkids. Wanda is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James and JoAnne Shaw; a daughter, Linda Shaw; her beloved grandchildren, Richard Shaw and wife Jessi, Samantha Shaw and Aaron, Brant Shaw, Javen Shaw, and Jagger Shaw; 4 great grandchildren, Theodore, Atticus, Nara, and Leona; a brother, James Toms; and a special friend, Ada Fox; and a life-long friend, Dee Boles. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Shaw, in 1982, a son, Richard Shaw, an infant daughter, Sherry Lynn Shaw, and a sister-in-law, Ruth Jones.
