Wayne Sexton, 90, of Kiowa died Tuesday morning, April 9, 2024 in Kiowa surrounded by his loving family. The family will greet friends 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, April 14. 2024 at Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory. A funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 15, 2024 at Kiowa First Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Danny Drake and a eulogy given by Bradley Hamilton. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery, McAlester with military honors by the U.S. Army Honors Team. Pallbearers will be, Mike Haynes, Bradley Hamilton, Kenny Maxwell, Jimmy Dale Echelle, Garett Rose and Lindsey Grant. Honorary pallbearers will be, Ben Murdaugh, Steve Slack, Shane Slack, Pake McEntire, Bear Gilliam, Oben Weeks, Chuck Patton, Billy Lee Hamilton, Dustin Shields, Coy Trammel, Pete Echelle, III, Mike Echelle, Charlie Rowland, Gary Crawley, Ralph McClendon, Dalton Turney, Jim Bob Winslett, Shawn Sisco, Carl Hackler, Gregg Murphy, Darrell Wilson, Larry Don Roberts and fellow members of Staples Lodge #117. Wayne was born to Merle and Ruby Lee (Cline) Sexton on December 23, 1933 in the smoke house at the Bar Diamond Ranch near Pittsburg. He attended Pittsburg and Limestone Gap School graduating in 1951. He married Joyce Sartor August 25, 1951 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. He earned a Bachelor's degree from Oklahoma A & M, and a master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma. He served 2 years in the U.S. Army in Artillery at Ft. Sill. Wayne was a rancher and owned and operated Sexton Ranch in Kiowa. He graduated from the World Wide College of Auctioneering and operated S & H Auction Service with Mike Haynes. Wayne worked as a school teacher at Limestone Gap; had also worked at McAlester Rodeo Shop with Junior Winslett and became an accomplished leather craftsman; as ranch supervisor for Oklahoma State Penitentiary; the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant, Coal County Community Action and then as a registered professional sanitarian for the State Department of Health for 24 years. Wayne was active in numerous community organizations, including: Kiowa Lions Club, Kiowa School Board, the Senior Steer Roping Association, Pittsburg County Conservation District where he served as District Director for 40 years, he also served on the KEDDO (Kiamichi Economic Development District of Oklahoma) where he had served as executive board member. Wayne was a member of the Scottish Rite, a 50-year member of the Staples Lodge #117, where he had served as Past Master; Wayne was a member of the annual John McEntire Steer Roping Committee; and was an original shareholder in the Kiamichi Big Buck Classic. Wayne was inducted into the Oklahoma Conservation Hall of Fame in 2007. Wayne was a member of Kiowa First Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Ruby Sexton; son, Rodney Dee Sexton; grandson, Bryan Charles Clonch; sister, Yvonne “Vonnie” Newberry. Wayne is survived by wife of almost 73 years, Joyce Sexton of the home; daughter, Vicki Clonch and husband, Melton of Ada; sons, Michael Sexton and wife, Deanna of Kiowa, Greg Sexton and Angie of Ashland; grandchildren, Brad Clonch and wife, Michelle, Brandon Clonch, Brittiany Cornish and husband, Chris; Clifford Sexton, Marci Stephens and husband, Chance; great grandchildren, Lanie Clonch, Kamryn Cornish, Everly Clonch, Elliot Clonch, Ethan Cornish, Weston Sexton, Isabella Sexton, Jaxson Stephens, Kyler Stephens, Willow Stephens; sister, Helen McClendon of Kiowa; sisters-in-law, Naomi Davis, Willie Dell Derryberry, Dora Kay Nichols and husband, Sherman, Ronna Gail Baldwin; brothers-in-law, R. W. Sartor, Lee Sartor and wife, Barbara, Wallace Sartor and wife, Betty, Charles Wayne Sartor and wife, Maclyn, Dorman "Dub" Sartor and wife, Sharon; numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.blockquote>
