Charles Allen Sanders, Sr. passed from this world and entered into the presence of our Lord on November 14, 2024 at his home. His wife, Myra, with the help of their grandson, Hunter, so graciously were his caregivers while he battled health issues for several years; allowing him to remain in his home up until his final day with us. Memorial services are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service in McAlester, Oklahoma. The family will receive visitors on Monday, November 18 from 5 pm to 7 pm at Bishop Funeral Service with memorial services on Tuesday, November 19 at 10 AM at Bishop Funeral Service with Monte Busby officiating. Final resting place will be at Memory Gardens Memorial Park in McAlester, Oklahoma. Pallbearers include Jimmy Shipley, Hunter Williams, Hayden Williams, Billy Mellor, Danny Conn, Larry Clifton. Honorary pallbearers are Charles Allen Sanders Jr, Zachary Shipley, Ayden Shipley, Brandon Conn, Jerry Grantham, Tommy Burton. Charles was born on August 6, 1938 in Scipio, Oklahoma to William Earl & Irene (Grantham) Sanders. He attended Scipio Grade School and later attended and graduated from Indianola High School. Charles had over 21 years of military service. He enlisted in the United States Army, where he served for 3 years as Private First Class in the Infantry Division. Charles also served 18 years as a Staff Sergeant in the Oklahoma National Guard 445th Military Police as a chemical operations specialist and military police. He was a Master Mason and member of the McAlester Lodge #96. Charles worked for over 30 years and retired from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation Engineering Division. He was a member and baptized at Second Baptist Church of McAlester. Charles enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, singing country music, playing his guitar, but most of all time spent with his family and his 2 favorite dogs, Baxter and Jeter. He is survived by his wife Myra (Conn) Sanders, of the home; Son Charles Allen Sanders, Jr and wife Tonya of Gravette, Arkansas; Son Jimmy Shipley and wife Kelly of Canadian, Oklahoma; Daughter Lana Sanders of Canadian, Oklahoma; Grandchildren Kylee Pitchford, Hunter Williams, Hayden Williams, Remington (Sanders) Minor, Zachary Shipley, Grace Shipley; Great-Grandchildren Ayden, Raelynn, Henley, Knox, Charlie, Hudson, Hunt, and Linen; Sister Evelyn Davis of McAlester, Oklahoma; Sister Earlene Cummins of Verdigris, Oklahoma; Sister Onita Ditchavage of Goodyear, Arizona; and numerous other family members and friends. Charles was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Sanders; father, Earl Sanders; Mother, Irene (Grantham) Sanders; niece, Jodi Lynn Mellor; and a very special brother-in-law, JT Cummins.
