Billy Joe "Topper" Polk, 84, of McAlester, died Saturday, October 11, 2014 at his residence. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 15 at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. David Stanfield officiating. Service arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service. Born June 9, 1930 in Blanchard, Oklahoma, Topper was a son of William Edwin and Gladys (Smith) Polk. He attended school at McAlester High School. He married his sweetheart, Evelyn Pauline Painter on July 1, 1949 at Sherman, Texas. Topper enjoyed fishing and hunting and loved his hunting dogs. He worked for 29 years at the Holsum Bread Factory in McAlester until its closing and later worked as a supervisor for the Oklahoma Highway Department until his retirement. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church of McAlester. Topper loved spending time with his grandchildren and pulling jokes. He is survived by his children: Ronald William Polk of McAlester, Paula Ann Manos and husband, Michael of McAlester, Tomi Jo Epps of Moore, Janice Kay Polk and husband, Robert Lofton of Shawnee. Also, his grandchildren: Ladd Polk and wife, Leann of Duncan, Stephanie Heimbuch and husband, Mike of Red Oak, Texas Jo Bill Manos and wife, Wendy of McAlester, Jeremy Manos and wife, Tabatha of Peggs, Brian Epps and wife, Shannon of Moore, David Epps of Moore, Erin Epps of Moore, Shelby Brown and husband, Brad of Choctaw; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife and sweetheart: Evelyn (Painter) Polk on January 24, 2011, parents: William Edwin Polk and Gladys (Smith) Polk, a brother: Clifford Blaine Polk, and a granddaughter: Christy Polk. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Laws, Wesley Parham, Stanley McBee, James Smith, Donnie Logsdon, Calvin Carney, Billy Mitchell, Larry McFarland, Ricky Kerns, and Jim Logsdon.
