Jim Dale Painter, 84, of McAlester, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at his home. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at 1:30 pm at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park in McAlester. Immediately following the service at the chapel, the family will host a Celebration of Life at The Grand Event Center in McAlester. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester. Jim was born in Hoffman, Oklahoma on January 29, 1933. He graduated from Jenks High School after attending McAlester Public Schools for several years. Following high school, he joined the Army in 1954 and was honorably discharged in 1956. Jim was married to Sara (Lynn) Painter for 52 years and they made their home near McAlester. He was a professional steer wrestler and a proud Gold Card member of the PRCA. He participated in 5 National Finals Rodeos as well as the 1st National Finals in Dallas, Texas in 1959. Jim retired after 25 years from Kiamichi Electric Cooperative Housing Authority as the Executive Director. Other interests and organizations include, hunting, ranching, Elks Lodge, Pittsburg County Cattleman's Association board member, Pittsburg County Expo Center board member and president and member of the American Legion. Jim is survived by his wife, Sara Painter, their daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Preston Robinson, granddaughters, Avery and Reese Robinson and brother, LeRoy Painter. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Nellie Painter and his youngest brother, Tom Painter.
