Mary Ellen Munholland, age 83 died Thursday, September 29, 2016 in McAlester. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Chapel with Brothers Mitch Arteberry and Verlon Cook officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 3, 2016 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home. Mary Ellen Munholland was born on December 11, 1932 in McAlester to Carl, Sr. and Vela Gladys (Sargent) Andrews. She grew up here and has lived here all her life. She married Ed Munholland on November 19, 1952. Mary worked as a secretary at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary, and then Jackie Brannon Correctional Center, for 25 years, retiring in 1997. She was an active life member of the VFW Post 1098 Auxiliary. Mary loved to go dancing, play bingo and cook big meals for her family. Her special times were spending time with her grandkids. She was a member of the Kiamichi Country Cowboy Church. Survivors include 5 daughters and 2 sons-in-law, Linda and Steve Bears of Tulsa, Janice Munholland of McAlester, Donna and Larry Mayfield of Canton, Mississippi, Jeannie Barker of McAlester and Kristi Munholland of McAlester; 4 sons and 1 daughter-in-law, Eddie and Donna Munholland, Gary Munholland, Terry Munholland and Robert Munholland, all of McAlester; 22 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren. Also a brother and sister-in-law, Jody and Dorthy Andrews and numerous nieces and nephews. Also, special friends, George Cotton and Jean Jones, and she was loved by many others. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, Judy Munholland, a grandson, Virgil Beasley, and 2 brothers, Carl Andrews, Jr. and Tommy Andrews. Active pallbearers are Terry Barker, Dakota Cruce, Caleb Collins, Justin Munholland and Matt Munholland.
