Norma Jean Major, 84, of McAlester, passed away Tuesday, November 12, in McAlester. Visitation will be Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, November 15, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Free Will Baptist Church in McAlester, with Pastor Steve Mayhew officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Chad Cooksey, Kent Towne, Andrew Major, Bucky Harp, Stuart Branscum and Jonas Branscum. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Mouser, Charlie Christian, Bob Miller, Doug Christian, Darlene Mouser and Sylvia Folsum. Norma Jean Major was born on December 2, 1934 in Wilburton to John Henry and Rhoda Catherine (O'Donnell) Funderburg. She grew up there and after graduating high school, she attended Eastern State College for a year. Then, on June 14, 1952, she married Kenneth Major, who preceded her in death on March 9, 2019. Jean worked at Sears & Roebuck, here in McAlester, for a number of years. She enjoyed playing the piano and sewing, but mostly liked spoiling the grandkids and great grandkids. She was a long-time member of the First Free Will Baptist Church of McAlester. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Gayla Major of McAlester; a son-in-law, Donny Morgan of McAlester; grandchildren, Chris Major and Kevin Major and wife Eboni; great grandchildren, Memrie Tohkubbi of Moore, OK, Keehanna Major of McAlester, Andrew Major of McAlester and Deakon Major of McAlester; a brother, Stanley Funderburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth Major; a daughter, Karen Morgan; 7 brothers and 1 sister.
