B. G. Jones, 83, of McAlester, died Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at his residence. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church of McAlester with the Rev. Rodney Briggs officiating. Burial was held at Memory Gardens Cemetery, McAlester, under direction of Bishop Funeral Service. Born July 25, 1925, in Broken Arrow, to David Armon and Annie Fine Guthrie Jones. He graduated from Council Hill High School in Council Hill in 1943, where he played basketball and baseball. He joined the United States Navy during World War II and served on the USS Cuttlefish where he went to electrician school. He married Amelia Polich on Aug. 25, 1945, in Des Moines, Iowa. At the age of 21, he went to work as a patrol officer for the town of Muskogee and while working there he joined the United States Army and served during the Korean War. He served in the 45th Infantry and left the Army as a master sergeant. He went back to the Muskogee Police Department and eventually retired as their interim chief. In 1967, he went to work for the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation where he continued to work for 23 years and retired in 1990 as inspector over the Eastern Region. He was also the first agent to receive his degree, and did so from Northeastern State University. During his time with the OSBI, he worked on the prison riots and the Girl Scout murders. He was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of McAlester, the Harrison-Powers Post No. 79 of the American Legion, a 32nd Degree Mason and he also coached and was president of the Muskogee Knothole Association from 1956-1962. Survivors include his wife, Amelia Jones, of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, David Gene and Connie Jones, of Crowder; two grandchildren and spouses, John and Tammy Jones, of McAlester, Kerri and Greg Cecil, of Crowder; two great-grandchildren, Conner Jones, of McAlester, Abbi Cecil, of Crowder and one brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Barbara Jones, of Wagoner. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Eva Grigg, Maxine Gunnason and Imogene Tatum. Pallbearers included Steve Woodley, Tommy Graham, Joe Hogan, Charles Mackey, K.P. Larsh and Charles Hale. Memory Gardens
