Herbert "Buzz" Hoover Henry, 95, of Kiowa, Oklahoma passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at his home. The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, 2024 at the Chaney Harkins Funeral Home Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 8, 2024 at the Kiowa First Baptist Church with Brent Davis officiating. The burial will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery in McAlester, Oklahoma. Pallbearers will be Chris Schwarz, John Schwarz, Joey Schwarz, Mike Scarlett, Robert Baker, Matthew Schwarz, Nickolas Schwarz, Carter Schwarz, Cooper Scherman, Kyle Salazar, and Kaden Scarlett. Buzz was born on December 18, 1928 in Ashland, Oklahoma to William L. Henry and Opal (Richardson) Henry. He married Melva Jones on April 8, 1950. They shared 65 years of marriage until her death in 2015. Buzz joined the United States Navy on July 25, 1946 and received an honorable discharge on November 3, 1949. Buzz served in Post-WWII in the Pacific Ocean being stationed in San Diego, CA, San Fransisco, CA, and Guam. He returned to Pittsburg County and married his beloved, Melva. He worked as an electrician and supervisor at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant for 36 years. He was active in the Kiowa community, serving multiple terms on the Kiowa School Board. Buzz was an active member of the Kiowa Baptist Church as Sunday school teacher and song leader for many years. Buzz is preceded in death by his wife, Melva (Jones) Henry; his daughter, Pamela Craft; grandson, Daniel Baker; great granddaughter, Sydney Schwarz; great grandson, Jameson West; his parents: William L. Henry and Opal (Richardson) Henry; and his sister, Billie Jo Lee Cox. He is survived by his daughter, Wanda (Henry) Schwarz and husband Tony of McAlester; grandchildren: Chris Schwarz and wife, Shannon, John Schwarz and wife, Renae, Joey Schwarz and wife, Toni, Mike Scarlett and wife, Devin, and Robert Baker and Becca; his great grandchildren: Matthew Schwarz, Nickolas Schwarz, Hannah Schwarz and Gavin Mordecai, Carter Schwarz, Cooper Scherman, Kyle Salazar, Kyra Salazar, Kaden Scarlett, Keleigh Scarlett, and Addison Sanders and husband Chase; his great-great grandchildren: Gatlin, Maliyah, and Ace; special nieces: Celia Rasmussen, and Christy Lee Cole; and his care-givers and special friends: Brad and Melissa Trammell; along with other family and friends.
