Ruyana Fugitt, cherished wife, devoted mother, treasured friend, dedicated community servant, and faithful follower of Christ, peacefully passed away at her home August 29, 2024. Born on January 26, 1941, in McAlester, Oklahoma, Ruyana was the daughter of Freddie and Ruy Browne, respected ranchers and community servants who instilled in her a rich legacy of love, generosity and unwavering faith. Ruyana graduated from McAlester High School in 1959 and went on to attend the University of Oklahoma. On January 14, 1967, she married the love of her life, Gary Fugitt, in a ceremony at the Grand Avenue Methodist Chapel. Together they built Big Mac Tank Trucks and other businesses that reflected their entrepreneurial spirit, and also proudly honored their family's heritage by continuing to operate their expansive ranching endeavors. Ruyana and Gary's fifty-five year marriage was characterized by warmth, laughter and an unbreakable bond of friendship. They were not only partners in life but also in their shared mission to serve others. Together, they navigated the gifts and challenges of life, drawing strength from their deep love for each other and relationship with God. The couple welcomed their only child, Garrison Browne Fugitt, on December 20, 1979. Garrison became the center of their world, and Ruyana poured her heart into nurturing him. Their bond was deeply meaningful, filled with countless adventures and memories made. Ruyana found profound happiness in being a mother, instilling in Garrison the same values of faith and service that guided her own life. She took great pride in his accomplishments and was truly involved in his life, providing unwavering support and guidance and always encouraging him to pursue his own dreams and passions. Ruyana had an innate gift for uplifting those that she encountered, always choosing to focus on the positive and hopeful aspects of life and finding the divine in every moment. Known for her grace and hospitality, she had a remarkable talent for opening her home to friends and family and creating warm and welcoming spaces for gatherings of all ages. Ruyana's eye for detail, creative spirit and love of a good project enveloped those around her, and her enthusiasm for planning and envisioning led to many memorable moments and adventures. Ruyana had the rare gift of opening her heart to those who drew close to her. It was her greatest desire for everyone to know God's love and have His peace that goes beyond all understanding. Ruyana's unwavering Christian faith was the guiding light throughout her life and was the cornerstone of all her actions and relationships. She believed in the power of the Holy Spirit and that all good things come from above. Her commitment to serving her community and spreading the love of Christ was evident in her many deeds, including having pivotal roles in the founding of two churches: New Covenant Church (now New Beginnings Church) and The King's House (now Dream City Church). These sanctuaries provided not only a place for worship, but also fostered a sense of belonging and support for many. Ruyana's leadership and vision inspired countless individuals to deepen their belief in God and engage in meaningful outreach programs. Her enthusiasm for children's ministry was evident during her tenure as the New Covenant Elementary school principal, where she worked diligently to create an environment that fostered learning, creativity and spiritual growth. Throughout her life, Ruyana was a quiet and selfless giver, dedicated to helping those in need without seeking recognition or honor. She firmly believed that all giving comes from God and she felt incredibly blessed to be able to share her resources with others. Following the untimely death of their son, Garrison, Ruyana and Gary established the Fugitt Foundation in his honor. This foundation allowed them to continue their family pledge of service, focusing on faith based and community endeavors that will make a difference for decades to come. Through Ruyana's heartfelt desire to give back from what God had given her, the foundation has been instrumental in sponsoring numerous impactful projects such as The Community of Hope Transitional and Foster Care Housing initiative, The EOSC Nursing Program, and the McAlester Public Library Renovation Project. Through her vision, dedication, and tireless work, Ruyana's efforts have made a lasting difference in the lives of many, helping to uplift those facing challenging circumstances and improving the quality for life for our entire community. Her leadership, compassion, and resolved dedication have left an indelible mark on the lives of those she touched and her offering of faith and service will continue to inspire future generations. Ruyana is predeceased by her beloved husband, Gary, and her treasured son, Garrison, whose memory will forever be a part of their endearing story. She is survived by a host of loved ones who are forever grateful for their time on earth with her, and know they will one day be reunited with her in heaven. Her legacy is one of abiding faith, endless love and selfless service. She led her life with grace, consistently emphasizing the importance of helping others and sharing the blessings she had received. Her profound belief in the love and care of God illuminated her path and encouraged all who crossed her life's journey to do the same. All who love her will continue to carry her spirit of kindness and generosity in their hearts and will remember forever her wanting everyone to know, "It's not me, it’s God." The family asks that no flowers be sent.
