Arthur Leon Compton, 81, of McAlester, died Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at Bishop Chapel of Memories with Rev. Mike Ross officiating. Interment will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Service arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service. Leon was born on October 14, 1933 in Haywood to Arthur Perkins & Ruby Adams Compton. He attended schools in Haywood and graduated from Haywood High School. After that, he worked for the Coke Plant and the Oklahoma State Highway Department. He also worked for A.E. Nott Electric Company and Weatherbee Electric Company in Oklahoma City. Leon married Norma McCaslin on March 6, 1954 in Ada. He started The Compton Electric Company in McAlester in 1963. Leon was of the Methodist faith. He was a member of The Odd Fellow Lodge and a member of the Elks BPOE Lodge # 533. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and golf. Survivors include his wife: Norma Compton of the home; children & spouses: Karen & Jim Wingo of McAlester, Ricky & Cathy Compton of Scipio; grandchildren: Ashley & Jeff West of McAlester, Hillary Steele of Tannehill. Also, great-grandchildren: Riley West, Turner West, Janson West, Joey Lynn Steele, Colter Steele; and several nieces, nephews & cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Leona Compton and Colene Cook, and a grandson-in-law: Nathan Steele. Pallbearers will be Jerry Vest, David Everett, Allen Rogers, Roger Kelley, Tommy Craig, and James Stiedley. Honorary pallbearers will be J.C. Williams, Jim Wood, and LeMac Morris.
