Donald Earl Brewer left this earthly life on December 2, 2023. Don was born on January 8, 1932 near Talihina, Oklahoma to Roy and Ruby Brewer. Don is survived by his daughter, Donna Brewer Bull, and son, David Brewer both of McAlester. Don had 4 grandchildren: Jennifer and Greg Waide of Enid, OK, Andy Bull of Enid, OK, Ashlee and Steve Hatfield of Raymore, MO and Jillian and Matt McDaniel of Dallas, TX. He is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren: Samantha Bull Kniss and Pejo Bull of Hastings, NE, Susannah, Makaley and Greyson Waide of Enid, Dalton, Emelia and Dallas Hatfield of Raymore MO. Also, several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Bert, Phil, Dale, and an infant sister. After graduating from Talihina High School in 1950, Don found work in the plywood mill industry in Roseburg, Oregon. While in Oregon Don enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and attended basic training at Lackland AFB. Afterwards, he and Imagean Sims were married and began their 71 years together in Fairbanks, Alaska. They spent the next 23 years moving from base to base while Don was serving in the Air Force. His assignments included Morocco, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, Greece, Vietnam along with several bases within the United States. They moved to McAlester, OK in 1974 upon his retirement. Don worked for the Oklahoma State Penitentiary as Warehouseman and Inmate Welfare and Recreation Officer. He later drove school busses for Frink Chambers and McAlester Public School systems until his retirement in 1994. Don loved "his kids" and often commented that his bus riders were the best kids ever. Don loved the outdoors and was an accomplished gardener, a member of the National Association for Uniformed services, the VFW and the American Legion. He delivered for Meals on Wheels and worked the voting precinct in Bugtussle. Don loved his church family and was a longtime member of the North Town church of Christ, where he had the privilege to serve as an elder. Family visitation will be from 4-6 pm on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at Bishop Chapel of Memories. Funeral service will be held at 10 am Friday, December 8, 2023 at Bishop Chapel of Memories, officiated by Randy Walters. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Randy Hughes, Jerry Morris, Greg Shores, Oben Weeks, and Dean Wood. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bill Coop, Tony Bates, Bill Price, Jim Kelley, Jerry Matthiews, and Men of North Town Church of Christ.
