Kay Frances (Garren) Blankenship, 87 of McAlester died Saturday, April 13, 2024 in McAlester. The family will greet friends 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2024 at Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory. A funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 22, 2024 at Bishop Chapel of Memories officiated by Rev. Mark Hennen. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jordan Blankenship, Brent Snider, Troy Stephens, MerryBeth Marcum, and Kayla Marcum. Honorary pallbearer will be her brother, William "Billy" Johns, and Randy Johns. Kay Frances was born to Willis and Fern (Curry) Garren on March 7, 1937 in Perry, Iowa. She graduated from high school in Chico, California. She married William Edward "Bill" Blankenship in 1957 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Kay was a line worker for Avon in California for 17 years and then became a full-time homemaker. Bill's work took them from California to Texas and they settled in McAlester in 1992. Kay was a skilled bowler and she enjoyed going fishing and boating with her husband and family. She also enjoyed reading, especially romance novels. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy. Kay was a woman of faith, and was recently watching Dream City Church services on line. She will be missed, but not forgotten. Kay was preceded in death by her father, Willis Garren; mother, Fern (Curry) Johns step-father William Johns; husband, Bill Blankenship; son, Billy Blankenship; and brother, Bobby Johns. She is survived by her grandson, Jordan Blankenship and wife, Leslie of McAlester, Brent Snider and wife, Megan of Tulsa; great grandchildren, Nolan Rich, Irelyn Shropshire, Mase Shropshire; brother, William "Billy" Johns of Ontario, California; daughter-in-law, Catherine Stephens and husband, Troy of Whitney, Texas; niece, Kim Huber; longtime family friend, Mae Humbles; numerous other family members and friends.
