Paula Ann (Furlow) Anderson, 83, of McAlester passed away peacefully on Monday, November 11, 2024, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. A funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at Bishop Chapel of Memories. Jeanie Stone will be officiating. The committal will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery in McAlester, Oklahoma. Pallbearers will be Eli Samuel Anderson, Timothy Liston Furlow, Hunter Bryce Harrelson, David Anthony Kay, Martin Aaron Payne, Jeffrey Mark Pruniski, and Joshua James Troutman. Paula was born on November 11, 1941, in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Earl Liston Furlow, Sr. and Erma Rosine (Ruf) Furlow. A proud graduate of Fort Smith High School, Paula furthered her education at Fort Smith Junior College, where she earned an associate degree. On August 20, 1961, Paula married her beloved, Grover Calvin (Andy) Anderson, in her hometown of Fort Smith. Paula and Grover moved around Arkansas until 1967 before they settled their roots in McAlester, where they remained throughout their life. Paula embraced the role of homemaker with grace and joy, dedicating herself to creating a warm and welcoming environment for her children and, later, her cherished grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Paula was a woman of many talents and interests. She was exceptionally skilled with her hands, with a delicate touch who could turn the ordinary into something beautiful. Her paintings reflected the beauty she saw in the world and were cherished by all. She was active in her daughter's Girl Scout Troop and spent countless hours cheering on her children's sporting events and school interests. Grover and Paula made many sacrifices so their three children could attend and graduate from any university they chose. After Grover's retirement, Paula discovered a passion for golf. The couple spent happy days together at McAlester Country Club. They shared fondest memories of traveling to South Carolina to visit Julie’s family and play Harbour Town at Hilton Head, Fripp Island and Pine Lakes Country Club. Family was the cornerstone of Paula's world. She had a special bond with each of her grandchildren and was overjoyed to welcome her great-granddaughter, Violet, into the family. Paula's presence at family gatherings was a source of comfort, joy and many entertaining meals filled with laughter. Those who knew Paula will remember her as a faith-filled woman. Her steadfast belief was a source of strength for her and for those around her. Paula's creativity was not limited to her crafts and paintings. It was evident in the way she approached life, always finding unique solutions to challenges and new ways to express her love for her family. Her creative spirit will live on in the memories of those who were lucky enough to know her and in the legacy of her artistic works. Paula is preceded in death by her husband, Grover "Andy" Anderson; her daughter, Andrea Lynn VanVekoven; parents, Earl Furlow, Sr., and Erma Furlow; parents-in-law, Robert and Flora Anderson; brother, Earl Furlow, Jr.; sister-in-law, Shelly Furlow; and a niece, Leslie Ann Furlow.
