Otis Wilbern Allen, 89 of Kiowa died Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at his residence. The family will greet friends and relatives 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, November 29, 2021 at Bishop Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at the Bob and Mae Weaver Memorial Sanctuary at Kiowa Cemetery. Burial will follow in Kiowa Cemetery. Pallbearers will be, Cecil Caples, Jaden Northway, Landon Peterson, Lee Allen, Ben Allen and Steven Peterson. Otis was born to Benjamin Franklin and Winnie Walker (Parks) Allen on June 19, 1932 in Wesley. He attended Wesley and Pittsburg schools. Otis married Earlene Marie Furr on December 13, 1952. They were married for 67 years before she preceded him in death on January 16, 2018. Otis served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 serving in France and Germany. He was a hard worker and had worked at several occupations during his life, including, owning and operating a dairy farm and second-hand store in Missouri, working in the orchards in California, working as a ranch hand and rancher in Oklahoma and Texas. He also worked for the City of Kiowa and as a bus driver for Kiowa schools. When Otis was in his early 20's he enjoyed calling square dancing. Otis loved to fish and enjoyed dancing. Whatever job he was given to complete he would gladly take on the task and work to the best of his ability to finish it. He loved to garden flowers and vegetables and was especially proud of his watermelons. Otis was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Franklin and Winnie Walker Allen; his wife, Earlene Marie Allen; daughter, Wanda Peterson; son-in-law, Gregg Peterson; grandson, Jason Grogan; great granddaughter, Jenna Northway; brothers, Herbert Allen, Travis Allen, I.Q. Allen, Benny Allen; sisters, Nellie Fay Dean, Bernice Lee and Lou Williams. He is survived by sons, Wilburn Allen and wife, Sherlyn of Mena, Arkansas, Jimmy Allen of Kiowa; daughter, Donna Diana Peterson of Kiowa; son-in-law, Kenneth Peterson of McAlester; sister, Flo Elliott of Kiowa; grandchildren, Samantha, Jerry, Melissa, Steven, Cassie, Shonna, Nathan, Brian, Lee and Ben; numerous great grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; numerous other family members and friends.
