Claribel A. Travis, 94, of McAlester, died Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at McAlester Regional Health Center. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 27 at Indianola Cemetery with Rev. J.T. Carnell officiating. She was born on November 13, 1922 in Durant to T. Griff & Anna Baugh Aston. Claribel attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater where she received her Degree in Music Performance, and then attended the University of Oklahoma where she got her Masters in Music Performance. She married Dale Travis on March 23, 1946 in Durant. She taught the first few years she was out of college. She then became the choir director at the First United Methodist Church, a position she held for several years. Claribel was a member of the women's group at her church and was a long time member of the Fortnightly Music Club. She and her husband, Dale, spent a great deal of time traveling to places like Europe and South America to name a few. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law: Doug & Judy Travis of Norman and Dale, Jr. & Marlene Travis of McAlester; grandchildren & spouses: Adam & Beverly Travis and Rachel & Adam Gilbert; 4 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
