Mary Lou Smith

June 20, 1950 ~ November 4, 2021

Mary Lou (Linton) Smith, 71, of McAlester, died Thursday, November 4, 2021 in McAlester. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 8, 2021 at the First Free Will Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Steve Mayhew and Doug Christian. Burial will follow at Indianola Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike Weeks, David Weeks, Keith Lott, Emmerson Smith, Dale Smith, Jack Mouser, and Shea Irwin. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the First Free Will Baptist Church, Mixed Adult Sunday School Class. Mary was born to James F. and Mary Evelyn (Stiles) Linton on June 20, 1950 in Muskogee. She was raised in Hoyt, and graduated from Stigler High School. Mary graduated from Eastern Oklahoma State College and obtained a Bachelor's degree in social work from East Central University in Ada. She married Gary Dewayne Smith on February 14, 1969 in McAlester. Mary had worked for Kibois as a caregiver. She was an active member of the First Free Will Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. Mary was preceded in death by her father: James F. Linton, mother: Mary E. Linton Johnson, and brother-in-law: Dennis Gilstrap. She is survived by her husband: Gary of the home; sons: Bryan Smith of Carlsbad, New Mexico, Mark Smith and wife, Natalie Prucka of Jacksonville, Florida; grandchildren: Emmerson Prucka-Smith and Libby Prucka-Smith; sisters: Joan Gilstrap of Oklahoma City, Ruth Burr and husband, John of Houston, Texas; brother: Frank Linton and wife, Sue of Turley; sister-in-law: Oleta Lott of McAlester; brother-in-law: Bob Smith and wife, Shirley of Richville; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
