J.B. Barlow, 93, lifelong resident of Scipio, Oklahoma, passed from this life on Friday, February 14, 2025 in McAlester. J.B. was born on January 16, 1932 in Scipio, Oklahoma to Joe and Ida Lee (Medley) Barlow. He graduated from Indianola High School. He married Edna Faye Cantrell on May 24th 1952 in Crawford County, Arkansas, and were married for 53 years until her passing on February 8th 2005. He entered the US Army on December 8th 1952 and was honorably discharged after serving in Korea as a corporal on December 7th 1954. He was employed at McAAP for a period of time, then was employed at Miller Glass for 37 years until his retirement in 1997. He was a dedicated member of Scipio Baptist Church. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and camping. He was a member of the McAlester Skeet Club and also past president of the McAlester Bass Club, where he was two time angler of the year, and member of the Tannehill/Scipio Lake area volunteer fire department. Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Rusty Barlow of McAlester, OK, Danny and Tricia Barlow of McAlester, OK, Gary and Penny Barlow of Tannehill, OK, and Monte and Krista Barlow of Stillwater, OK; 9 grandchildren and spouses, Barry Barlow of Glenpool, OK, Dustin and Jessica Barlow of Sallisaw, OK, Ashley and Brian Adams of Indianola, OK, Paul and Lora Barlow of Canadian, OK, Rachel and Alex Bailey of McAlester, OK, Chelsey and Jonathan Willoughby of Yukon, OK, Nicholas and Katie Barlow of Stillwater, OK, Micah and Grace Barlow of Alamogordo, NM, and Philip Barlow of Fairbanks, AK; 17 great-grandchildren; Brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Joyce Barlow of Emery, TX; sister, Lavoyce Ruddell of Bonham, TX; sister-in-law, Ellen Barlow of Crowder, OK; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends, Howard Zummer, Larry Clifton, Danny Conn, Dave Grantham, Larenda Bowen and Bo Clark. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Ida Barlow; wife, Faye Barlow; brothers and sister-in-law, Jack and Dot Barlow, Jerry Barlow and Larry Barlow; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bethel and May Cantrell; sister-in-law, Lois Clark; brothers-in-law, Jerry Cantrell and Ray Cantrell. The family will greet friends on Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in McAlester. Services will be 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 21, 2025 at Brumley-Mills Chapel in McAlester with David Cantrell and Daniel Milligan officiating. Burial will follow at Hugh Low Cemetery in Scipio. Active pallbearers will be Randy Clifton, Barry Barlow, Paul Barlow, Hunter Adams, Nick Barlow and Micah Barlow. Honorary pallbearers will be the Scipio Baptist Church Senior Men's Class. A very special thanks to Belfair Assisted Living Center and Southeast Hospice of McAlester.
