Submitted by: Carol RiceCarole Sue (McDowell) Rice, 90, of Haywood, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2024 in Haywood, Oklahoma. Family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, 2024 at Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory. A funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2024, at Arpelar Baptist Church in Arpelar officiated by Rev. Matt Rosenow. Burial will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery near Haywood, Oklahoma. Pallbearers will be Robert Patton, Noah Rosenow, Nolan Rice, Mark Parham, Randy Parham and Tom Wright. Carole was born on December 27, 1933 to Howard A. McDowell and Lola I. (Hutson) Rhoades McDowell in Morris, Oklahoma. Carole's early life in Morris laid the foundation for her strong work ethic and community involvement. After graduating from high school, she embarked on a fulfilling career at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant, where she dedicated 15 years of service before retiring in 1992. The year 1955 marked the beginning of a beautiful journey as Carole married the love of her life, Arthur Edgar "Ed" Rice, on September 23, 1955 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Their union was a beacon of devotion and companionship. They made their home in Seminole until moving to Haywood in 1968. Carole's passion for life extended beyond her professional endeavors. She was a devout church goer who found great solace and community in her faith. Her love for animals was profound, she cared for the wild turkeys, deer, all wildlife, and her beloved pets daily. Her home was a sanctuary for creatures great and small, and her compassion for animals was a true reflection of her generous spirit. Family and friends were the cornerstone of Carole's world. She relished the time spent with loved ones, creating memories that would be treasured forever. Carole was preceded in death by her parents Howard and Lola McDowell; son: Tommy Edgar Rice; husband, Arthur Edgar "Ed" Rice; sister, Alice Frances (Rhoades) Godfrey-Rainwater. Carole is survived by her granddaughters: Amanda Rice of McAlester, Jennifer Kendrick and husband, Jesse of McAlester; three great-grandchildren: Maggie Worley of Kiowa, Emma Mills, Nolan Rice both of McAlester; great grandson, Tommy Worley; a nephew: Raymond Godfrey; along with other family members and friends.
