Honorary pallbearers are all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Pete was born on June 8, 1935 in Harper Valley to Robert and Maybelle (Nichols) Hatridge. He attended school at Harper Valley and Kiowa. He married Margaret "Nancy" Tucker on May 16, 1953 in Kiowa. Pete and Nancy were married 65 years at the time of her passing on April 30, 2018. They lived all their lives in the Harper Valley area. Both were of the Baptist Faith and worked in Children's Ministry at Kiowa Baptist Church for many years. Pete and Nancy were known as Pa and Nanny to all their family. Pete worked several years as an electrician with his brother Bob in Arcadia Park, Texas. He also worked for Pittsburg County District 2, Oklahoma State Penitentiary, and retired from the McAlester Naval Ammunition Depot. After retirement, Pete worked as a rancher taking care of his many cattle. Born Gene Stanton, he was given the nickname "Pete" after an old mule his family had when he was growing up. He told the story that the mule was stubborn and wouldn't stay in the pen and kept jumping out. They would tie a log chain to the mule's front legs trying to keep him hemmed in, but he'd still jump out to escape. His family thought Gene was so much like this hardheaded mule that he was known as "Pete" all his life. He loved to plant a big garden. When they were little, his children, Roy and Jeanie, would be put to work as the "team" pulling the front end of the garden plow pulling while Pete pushed from behind to till the garden. His children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews have fond memories of helping them gather the garden's bounty, snapping peas, and silking corn all the while Nanny was canning in the kitchen. Pete and his family gathered the pecan harvest from his orchard and for many others. Pete had a priceless Avon Cologne bottle collection and many treasures dear to his heart. Pa and Nanny loved to camp with their family at Lake Eufaula every spring, fishing for crappie and catfish. The fish caught fed their family and friends at the annual Hatridge Family Fish Fry, started in the early 1970's and held every Memorial Day weekend at Harper Valley Church. Pete loved playing cards (and sometimes cheating to win), especially the game "Rook." Countless family memories were made at Pa and Nanny's house for holidays, weekends, and deer camp; and many of the grandkids were kept by them as babies and surely spoiled. Pa loved hot peppers, made the best homemade pickles, and operated the Hatridge Family Fireworks stand in Kiowa for many years. Pete a was a member of President Trump's Advisory Board and has the hat and pin to prove it! He had the most generous and giving heart.
