Mark Edward Day Sr., 68, of Hartshorne, Oklahoma, went to be with his heavenly father on Monday, January 18, 2021, surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 22, 2021 at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Chapel in Hartshorne with Steve Buxton and Tommy McCullar officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Hartshorne. He was born August 30, 1952 in Medford, Oregon to Alvin Leon and Mary Lou (Colley) Day-Pierce. He grew up in Burney, California where he graduated high school. He married the love of his life, Mary Alice (Pace) Sweet on July 8, 1983. During his lifetime he held many jobs. He worked at a sawmill in California, when moving to Oklahoma he started working for the City of Hartshorne. He was the dog catcher, volunteer fireman, policeman and worked at the Hartshorne sewer plant and was the mayor of Hartshorne for 8 plus years. He gave his life to God and served as the youth minister for Haileyville Christian Church and eventually became pastor for Hartshorne Christian Church. He served on the Board of Directors for the Pittsburg County Water Authority for 10 years then for the last 22 years of his life he was the manager for the Pittsburg County Water Authority. When not working he enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his kids and grandkids. He is survived by his wife, Mary Day of the home; children, Monica Day of Hartshorne, Oklahoma, Mark Day, Jr. of Hartshorne, Oklahoma, Larry Day and wife, Samantha of Hartshorne, Oklahoma, Kenneth Day of Glenville, West Virginia, Sherry Day and husband Brad of Hartshorne, Oklahoma, Terry Sweet of Hartshorne, Oklahoma, Teresa Sweet and husband Jerry of McAlester, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Nicole Loyd, Crystal Loyd, Austin Day, Cody Day, Mark Day III, Tomas Lozano, Gina Day, Zachary Day Warren, Jonathan Caldwell, Tiffany Day, Shelby Day, Zainha Mordecai, Sean Day, Kyler Day, Kennedy Day, Blu Day, Brayden Day, Chloe Bonham, Bailey Cummins, Sashka Sweet, Annaleise Sweet, Amber Sweet, Jordan Aumiller, Cheyenne Scott, Elizabeth Mooney, Samuel Mooney, Brycen Mooney, Bryant Savage, Emily Luce, Wyatt Luce and their spouses. 39 great-grandchildren including, Nevaeh and Avannah Brown of the home; brother and sister-in-law, Leon and Donna Day of Folsom, California; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Will Feltner of Indianapolis, Indiana; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Mary Lou; son, Robert J. Johnson and a great-granddaughter, Klisha Lucille Brown. Active pallbearers will be Ryan McCullar, Tom Irish, J.D. Beauchamp, Chris Loman, Bruce Pizzo and Roy Engleman. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Day, Jr., Larry Day, Cody Day, Austin Day, Tomas Lozano and Brayden Day.
