Obituary:

Debra Ann Williams, known affectionately as Debbie to those who had the joy of her company, was a force of nature whose laughter was as hearty as her cooking. Born on June 8, 1960, in McAlester, Oklahoma, Debbie was a woman who lived her life with the kind of zest and gusto that left a mark on everyone she met. On February 7, 2024, after a period of declining health, Debbie's vibrant spirit took its final bow in the very town that had the honor of witnessing her first breath, McAlester, OK. Debbie was the life of the party, the sixth child, and third daughter of the late Easy Mae Robinson-Evans. She inherited her mother's resilience and quick wit. She was the cherished mother of her son, Robert Williams of Hartshorne, and the adored grandmother to Devon, Michael, Ciarah, and Xavior Williams. Her legacy continued with her four great-grandchildren: Octavia, Kenzo, King, and Kyomi, who will no doubt inherit her infectious laugh and love for life. Debbie's siblings, Clarence and Aaron (with his wife Michelle) Williams, and sister Levenia (with her husband Robert) Carey, all from McAlester, will hold dear the memories of their sister's fearless approach to life. She was an important piece to a masterful puzzle in the Williams clan, and her absence will be felt deeply. Preceded in death by her brothers Bartholomew "Barkley" Williams, Sylvester Williams (his children Clement and Kimberly Dawn) and Michael Evans, and her sisters Mary Lou Williams-Taylor and Vera Kay Williams-Nelson. Debbie is no doubt regaling them with tales and jokes in a reunion that is surely lighting up the heavens. Her nieces and nephews whom she adored and enjoyed spending time with: Angel Henderson (daughter Tyanna and grandchildren- Braxzen and Braelynn); Franklin Williams, Danielle Robinson (husband Andre and sons: Daxten and Jacari); Shontrice Carey (children: Tayvion and Saraya); Robert Carey (son: Cooper); ZaCaaron Williams, and her extended family and friends have been left with a treasure trove of anecdotes and life lessons, all delivered with Debbie's signature comedic timing. Her education in Hartshorne, OK, was the foundation upon which she built a lifetime of friendships and a career as a domestic engineer, where she was more than just a cook; she was a culinary genius. Debbie's interests were as full-flavored as her dishes. She loved watching sports with the same passion she put into her meals, and there was nothing she enjoyed more than a good game day surrounded by her family and friends. Her grandchildren were the apple of her eye, and she reveled in every moment spent with her "grandbabies," ensuring that laughter was always on the menu. Describing Debbie as loving, funny, and courageous is like saying the Grand Canyon is a hole in the ground-it barely scratches the surface. She was a woman who lived boldly, laughed loudly, and loved deeply. In the words of the late, great Robin Williams, a man whose humor she greatly admired, "You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it." Debbie not only kept her spark, but she also fanned it into a blazing fire that warmed all who were near her. Debbie Williams' legacy is not one of silence but of raucous joy and the courage to face life head-on. Her laughter will echo in the hearts of those she leaves behind, a reminder to embrace the madness, the love, and the laughter she so generously shared. As we bid farewell to Debbie, let's honor her memory by living as she did-with a full heart and an ever-ready punchline. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, Hartshorne, Oklahoma with Rev. Anthony Washington officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Park Cemetery.
