Obituary:
Billie Jean Claxton, 82, of Hartshorne, died Sunday, November 8, at her home in Hartshorne, surrounded by her family. The family will conduct a memorial service on Saturday, November 14, at 11:00 a.m. at the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Hartshorne. Pastor Aaron Williams will officiate. Billie Jean Claxton was born on February 22, 1938 in Dow, Okla to Willie and Hazel (Jordan) Hopson and grew up in Dow and Hartshorne. She married Ivan Evans, Sr. and they lived in Kansas City for a while, where Billie worked at the KU Hospital. Then when she returned to Hartshorne she worked at Oklahoma Aerotronics a while then at Hartshorne Schools as a teachers aid. Mr. Evans preceded her in death and she later married William Claxton. He also preceded her in death. Billie was a member of the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Hartshorne, where she loved to sing in the choir. She also helped as a volunteer caregiver for the elderly or the sick. Billie is survived by her children, Ivan E. Evans, Jr. of Hartshorne, Vickie L. Walker of Tulsa, and Beverly A. Henderson of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Darrell Walker, John Walker, III, Daniel Henderson, Richard Henderson, Angel Henderson, and Ryan Messel; numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; a brother, Ernest Hopson, and a special cousin who was like a brother, Robert Mardis, Jr.; and special sons-in-law, Raymond Henderson and John Walker. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents, L. W. Brown and Edna Smith; and 3 brothers, Winfred Kidd, Willie Hopson, Jr. and Tom Hopson.
