Alvie L. Smith, 74 of McAlester died Saturday June 10, 2023 in McAlester. The family will greet friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday June 15, 2023 at New Beginnings Church officiated by Rev. Kenny Springer and Rev. Keith Kinnamon. Burial will follow in Crowder Cemetery. Pallbearers will be, Dally Smith, Hunter Smith, Cody Smith, Dalton Kinnamon, Junior Standridge and Robert Kerns. Honorary pallbearers will be Rev. Keith Kinnamon and Jack Ormsby. Alvie was born to Alvin E. and Lulu Mae (Tatum) Smith on September 3, 1948 in Tucson, Arizona. He grew up in Colorado and moved to McAlester at the age of 18. He married Jenetta F. Pogue on March 21, 1972 in McAlester. Alvie worked for the City of McAlester for over 35 years. He worked in several departments and was foreman of the Utility Maintenance Department when he retired. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and repairing small engines. Alvie's legacy of loving the outdoors will live long through his children and grandchildren. He was a member of New Beginnings Church. Alvie was committed to his family, enjoyed life and loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a simple, kind and gentle person that was always available to help those in need. He will be missed but not forgotten. Alvie is now reunited with his parents, Alvin E. and Lula M. Smith; grandson, John Wyath "J.W." Smith; brothers, Dally Smith, Travis Smith, Jim Long, Carl Smith; sisters, Virginia Mason, Sharon Sanderson and Rose Handley. He is survived by his loving wife, Jenetta of the home; daughters, Danetta Rials and husband, David of Okmulgee, Nora Burris and husband, Terry of McAlester; son, Dally Smith of McAlester; grandchildren, Cody Smith and Paige, Chance Webb, Morgan Standridge and husband, Junior, Hunter Smith and, Jan, Carson Smith; great grandchildren, Blakely Smith and Casey Smith; sisters, Violet Salvelesky, Katie Utterback; special and life long friends, Rev. Keith Kinnamon, Jack Ormsby; numerous other family members, nieces, nephews and friends.
