Kenneth Eugene Van Hoozer, 85, of Crowder, Oklahoma died Saturday, November 22, 2014 at his home in Crowder, Oklahoma.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 24, 2014 at Crowder Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Crook officiating. Music will be provided by: Roger and LaNisa Nitzel, Jana Griffin and Cassie Motley. Interment will be at Crowder Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Tom Bell, Tommy Bell, Chuck Courts, Wayne Griffin, K.J. Burks and Raymond Parker. Services are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service.
Kenneth was born June 30, 1929 in Wardville, Oklahoma to William and Jewel (Lee) Van Hoozer. He attended Indianola High School and graduated with the class of 1947. He joined the Air Force in 1951 and served during the Korean War. He received an honorable discharge in January of 1955 as Staff Sergeant. His children: Darrell, Brett and Christy were born during the next few years.
Kenneth attended the Oklahoma School of Accounting and worked for Pacific Pumps in Tulsa for the next eight years. In 1965, he joined the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife as a Game Warden. He worked the Pittsburg county area before being transferred to Oklahoma City as Chief of Law Enforcement for the State of Oklahoma. He retired in 1988 after 23 years.
He married Wilma (Midge) Treado on August 1, 1981. The couple made their home in Crowder, where Kenneth was a member of the Crowder Freewill Baptist Church.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling and camping. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed watching the kids and grandkids play basketball and baseball. Kenneth also enjoyed listening to Gospel music.
He is survived by: his wife, Midge Van Hoozer of the home; his son, Darrell Van Hoozer and wife, Donna of Newalla, Oklahoma; his daughter, Christy Fisher of Ozark, Arkansas; two step daughters: Jackie Clark and husband, Damon of Tannehill, Oklahoma and Tammy Lemke and husband, Paul of Wabash, Indiana; grandchildren: Travis Van Hoozer and wife, Kelsey of Gene Autry, OK; Misty Hutchison and husband, Dale of Choctaw, Oklahoma; Laura Hammer of Ozark, Arkansas; Amanda Hammer of Ozark, Arkansas; step grandchildren: Justin Casey of McAlester, Oklahoma; Colton Courts; Ryan Hefley of Coalgate, Oklahoma; Sami Casey Adams of McAlester, Oklahoma; a step great grandson, Trenton Courts of Stuart, Oklahoma; an aunt, Florence Thompson of Choate Prairie, Oklahoma; a sister-in-law, Pat Van Hoozer of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and two nieces: Cheral and Donna. He is also survived by other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his parents: William and Jewel (Lee) Van Hoozer; his grandparents; his brother, Jerry Van Hoozer; his sister, Wanda Kindred and an infant son, Brett.
