Ellen Elizabeth (Armstrong) Honea, 96, of Crowder, died Saturday, January 10, 2015 at a local nursing center. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 13 at Bishop Chapel of Memories with New Life 3:13 Ministry officiating. Interment will be at Crowder Cemetery. Service arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service. Ellen was born August 18, 1918 in Milton, Oklahoma. She and John Honea were married in 1938 and lived in California for many years. They later made their home in Crowder. Ellen was an ordained minister of the Independent Holiness Church of Ft. Gibson and was active in church work for most of her life. Ellen loved sewing and was known for her quilt making. She also liked to write stories, listen to gospel music and garden. She is survived by her daughters: Margie Fremen and husband, Tommie of Crowder, Brenda Honea of McAlester, and Debbie Proe and husband, Donnie of Crowder. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Marvin and Elizabeth Armstrong; brothers: Willis Armstrong and Lawrence Armstrong; sister: Ruth Rogers; husband: John Honea in 1987; son: Bill Shaffer; and grandson: Bill Shaffer, Jr. Pallbearers will be grandsons: Andrew Braswell, Dan Braswell, Glenn Enloe, Stacy Proe, Michael Proe, and Rick Lewis. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews: Stanley Rogers, Jerry Rogers, Gene Rogers, John Rogers, Archie Rogers, Teddy Rogers, and Archie Fremen.
