Rosa Faye Hayes, affectionately known as Granny mouse to her friends and family, passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at the age of 92, in McAlester, Oklahoma. A viewing will be Friday, December 15, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory. A graveside service will be Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Crowder Cemetery in Crowder, Oklahoma. Officiating will be Reverend J.D. Smith. A burial will follow under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory. Active pallbearers will be Blake Denny, Jack Denny, James Nooner, Adam Nooner, and Chris Nooner. Faye was born on July 23, 1931, in Ulan, Oklahoma to Henry and Effie (Blevins) Smith. Faye attended and graduated from Crowder High School in 1949. On May 6, 1950, she married the love of her life, Jack Hayes, in McAlester, and together they raised a beautiful family of three daughters and one son. Faye's work ethic was unparalleled, as evidenced by her 12 years of dedicated service as a cook for the Crowder School Cafeteria. Faye's culinary skills and warm smile were a comfort to countless students and staff members, leaving a lasting impression on the community she served. A woman of many interests, Faye found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid quilter and seamstress, often gifting her family and friends with the beautiful works of her hands. Her love for the outdoors was evident in her enthusiasm for arrowhead hunting, painting, fishing, and tending to her quilting and garden. Faye's passion for nature was only matched by her love for her community and her unwavering faith. She cherished the time spent worshiping and fellowshipping at her local churches. Family was the cornerstone of Faye's life. She is survived by her loving daughters, Linda Nooner of Blocker, Debbie Denny and her husband, Chester of Crowder, and Jackie Hicks and her husband, Carl of McAlester; her son, Bill Hayes and his wife, Donna of McAlester; her cherished grandchildren, James, Chris, and Adam Nooner, all of McAlester, Brian Hicks of Broken Arrow, Carla Martin of Checotah, Amber Wheat, Michael Hayes both of Soldotna, Alaska, Jack Denny of Crowder, Shana Byrd of Hartshorne, and Joe Nooner of Blocker; as well as twenty-three great-grandchildren and twenty great-great-grandchildren who will miss her dearly. Faye also leaves behind her brothers, J.D. Smith and his wife, Sharon of Crowder, Bill Smith and his wife, Pat of Port Neches, Texas, Joe Smith of Rockwall, Texas, John Smith, and Jim Smith and his wife, Opal both of Wylie, Texas. Her extended family included numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends who all felt the warmth of her presence in their lives. She is preceded in death by her husband: Jack Hayes on January 15, 1992; her parents: Henry and Effie Smith; her brother: Ronald "Ronnie" Smith; her son-in-law: James Nooner. Faye will be remembered as a faith-filled and spirited woman, whose kindness touched the lives of everyone around her. Faye was a beacon of light and love to all who knew her, embodying a spirit of generosity and faith throughout her life.
