Pittsburg Calvary Cemetery



George Lee Rice, 70, of Pittsburg, passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at his residence. Viewing will begin on Friday at 10:00 a.m. with the family greeting friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Bishop Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 28, 2020 at the Pittsburg Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Pittsburg Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jim Sullivan, Joe Sullivan, Mike Spears, Kevin McCormick, John Shannon, and Doug Self. Honorary pallbearers will be Randall Rowland, Terry Riddle, and Steve Lovelace. George was born March 11, 1950 in McAlester to Warren and Gladys (Rush) Rice. He graduated from Pittsburg High School and attended Eastern Oklahoma State College. He was a heavy equipment mechanic for a number of years, working for Pittsburg County District #2 and also Chapman Construction in Texas. George married Elaine Prince on February 14, 1996 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He loved to listen to country music, delighted in dancing, and enjoyed going to deer camp with his family. George was a proud supporter of the NRA and loved raising cattle. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Rice of the home; children: Cowboy Rice of Pittsburg, Jana Godwin and husband, Charles of Stuart, Ladonna Myers and husband, Jason of Wesley, and Melanie Rice and husband, Clayton of Pittsburg; grandchildren: Scarlett, Hunter, Ryder, Austin, Gladie, Cash, Elainea, Duncan, Elliot, and Matthew; great-grandchildren: Garrison, Rhett, Avery, Newly, Kaibryn, Finley, and Case. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Jimmy Rice and wife, Carol of Pittsburg, Melba Keck and husband, Wayne of Indianola, Ronnie Rice and wife, Debbie of Pittsburg, and Susie Hass of McAlester; aunt: Dittie Sullivan and husband, Johnny of Hartshorne; and many nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his parents: Warren and Gladys Rice, brother: Robert Rice, grandson: Hank Brown, nephew: Gabe Marshall, niece: Christina Kenney, great-niece: Casey Brannon, and great-nephew: Seven Kenney.
