Walter Levi "Jerry" Moore

Walter was born on July 22, 1926 in Stuart and passed away from this life on November 20, 2016 at his home in Pittsburg surrounded by his family and friends. Walter served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946 during WWII. While serving in the Army, Walter was classified as a rifle sharpshooter and a petroleum storage technician 485. Walter served in Germany and received the EAME Theater Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Ribbon, Army of Occupation Ribbon (Germany), and two overseas bars. Later in life, Walter went to work for the Naval Ammunition Depot until he was able to retire after many years. Walter is survived by his daughter: Nancy Hailey and husband, Mike of Shawnee; son: Stan Moore of Pittsburg; step-children: Ron Spear and friend, Dr. Torance Vandygriff of Ben Franklin, Texas, Joyce Church and husband, Cecil of Kiowa, Carol Rice and husband, Jimmy of Pittsburg, Harold Akins and wife, Helen of Ardmore. Also, grandchildren: Wendy Scott, Jeanette Houchin, James Akins, Tony Akins, Brad Church, Curtis Church, Michael Hailey, Joseph Hailey, Angela Hailey, Michael Spear, James Rice, Lisa Kahn, Steven Akins, Wayne Akins; and numerous great-grandchildren. Walter was preceded in death by his parents: Nancy Cordelia Watkins and John Albert Moore; brothers: Albert, Clyde, Guy, and Willie; twin baby boy; sisters: Ertie, Ella, Mertie, and Marie; wife: Virginia Evelyn Moore; step-sons: Eual Wayne Akins and Michael Douglas Spear; granddaughter: Christina Rice and her children: Casey and Seven; and great-grandson: Matthew Rice. The family would like to thank Coalgate Hospital, Dr. Helton, and staff and Tender Care Hospice of Coalgate. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 23 at Pittsburg Cemetery with Jerry's granddaughter, Mrs. Wendy Scott, officiating. Interment will follow. Pallbearers will be Jerry's grandsons: James Rice, Brad Church, Michael Spear, Curtis Church, Mike Hailey, and Joe Hailey.
