Virginia Evelyn Moore, 84, of Pittsburg, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007 at McAlester Regional Health Center. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pittsburg Baptist Church with the Rev. George Spears officiating. Burial will be at Pittsburg Cemetery under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester. Born Dec. 24, 1922, in Blanco, she was the daughter of Cornelius E. and Mary Jane Goodwin Ward. She attended school at Wheelock Indian Boarding School in Millerton and later she attended school in Smithville. During World War II she and her sisters moved to California where she worked as a welder in the shipyards building battleships for the war. She married Walter L. Moore on July 13, 1955, In Tucumari, N.M. She later moved to Pittsburg, where she lived most of her life. She enjoyed watching her children play sports during their school years and later spending time with her family aroung the television while her favorite team, The Oklahoma Sooners, played ball. She was a long time member of the Pittsburg Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Walter L. Moore, of the home; her children and spouses, Wanda Akins, Dallas, Wayne and Pat Akins of El Reno, Harold and Helen Akins of Ardmore, Carol and Jimmy Rice of Pittsburg, Joyce and Cecil Church of Kiowa, Doug Spear of Ardmore, Ron Spear of Dallas, Nancy and Mike Hailey of Shawnee and Stan Moore of Pittsburg. Also 17 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren, and a sister, Ruby Anderson of Tuskahoma. Pallbearers will be Jim Sullivan, Joe Sullivan, Steve Billingsley, Larry Christman, Andy Johnson and Randy Cole. Very special honorary pallbearer will be Mark Parker. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cornelius and Mary Ward; a son, James Charles Spear and two sisters, Ruth Burnett and Dorcy Wren.
