Otis Eugene "Gene" Upchurch, 85 of McAlester, died Tuesday November 8, 2016 in McAlester. Gene was born to A. B. and Laura (Henderson) Upchurch November 12, 1930 in the Ash Creek Community. He attended Crowder school. Gene married Earlene Castleberry April 17, 1959 in Poteau. Gene worked as a heavy equipment operator for Dolese. He was a member of the North Town Church of Christ. Gene was an avid horseman and calf-roper. He enjoyed talking with his friends over coffee at the Gorilla Store in Krebs. He also enjoyed meeting and eating with friends a the Stipe Center in McAlester and the Senior Citizens Center in Krebs.
Gene is survived by: wife, Earlene Upchurch of the home; nieces: Rae Lynn Upchurch of Krebs, Karla Brooks of Broken Bow, Rita Mosley of Del City; nephew, Ray Sheppard and wife, Sabrina of Jamestown, Kentucky; special friends: Allen and Betty Boatright and John and Barbara Carano.
He was preceded in death by his parents, A.B. and Laura Upchurch; brother, James Ray Upchurch and a sister, Oweeta Mosley.
The family will greet friends 4:00 pm to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Bishop Funeral Service.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 14, 2016 at Bishop Chapel of Memories officiated by Mr. Joe Ware. Burial will follow in Ash Creek Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Johnny Brewer, Ray Brewer, Nike Fassino, Paul Giaudrone, Roger Giaudrone and George Finamore.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Allen Boatright, John Carano, Warren Hollis, Marty Medley, John Shields and Oben Weeks.
