William Allen "Bill" Thornton, 83, of Ash Creek Community, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, August 23, 2021 in McAlester. The family will greet friends and visitors from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 24, 2021 at Bishop Funeral Service. A graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 27, 2021 at the Ash Creek Cemetery Pavilion officiated by Rev. Tracy Lennox. Burial will follow. Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Dr. Landon McNeely, Steven Thornton, Jr, Brian Thornton-Stover, Jr, Jesse Thornton, Carl Thornton, and Zac Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be Wesley Harry Oneth and Ray Mobley. William Allen was born to Lewis Orla and Lora Lee (Davis) Thornton on January 22, 1938 in Kingfisher, Oklahoma. He graduated from Pampa High School in Pampa, Texas in 1956. He then attended West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas where he was a member of the Army R.O.T.C. He started working for Cabot Carbon Black in Pampa and transferred to Marietta, Ohio before returning to Pampa in 1969. He worked as a carpenter and home building contractor from 1969 to 1978 while also working for J. Paul Getty, Skelly, and Texaco. He married Glenda W. Sparks on June 14, 1993 in Clarksville, Arkansas. He retired from Texaco in 1999 while living in Duncan as a refinery plant operations manager in Velma-Alma, Oklahoma. After retirement, he and Glenda moved to their ranch at Ash Creek. Bill loved attending church and lifting his voice to praise the Lord. He was a member of Ash Creek Union Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors; and especially loved running the creek with his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. He enjoyed golfing and had a private pilot's license. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited, and helped manage and operate Lockhart Game and Exotics in Pampa, Texas. Bill was a founding member of the Optimist Club in Pampa, Texas. Bill was preceded in death by his parents: Lewis O. and Lora L. Thornton and a brother: Bob Thornton. He is survived by his wife: Glenda of the home; sons: Steven Ray Thornton and wife, Ann of Clarendon, Texas, Brian Thornton and wife, Amy of Wilburton; daughter: Janet McNeely of Pampa, Texas; blended family: Brian Tollison and wife, Racheal of Three Forks, Montana, Stephanie Quaid and husband, Jeff of Moore; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters: Deanne Trollinger and husband, Larry of Louisville, Kentucky, Mary Ellis and husband, Lyndle of Tulsa; sister-in-law: Linda Maupin-Thornton of Enid; and special life-long friends: Ray and Dixie Mobley.
