Stephen Dewayne Shropshire, 39, of McAlester, passed away Thursday, October 16, 2025 at his home west of McAlester. Funeral services will be Thursday, October 23, at 10:00 a.m. at the Arpelar Church of the Nazarene, with Pastor Bart Patterson officiating. Burial will follow at Arpelar Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Arthur Shropshire, Jonathan Shropshire, Edmond Shropshire, Richard Shropshire, Glen Keuntsler, and Jerrod Johnson. Honorary pallbearers are Greg Beshear, Bobby Shropshire, Jack Shropshire, Trey Cannon, Chris Woodall, David Guyer, Dustin Comstock, and Clint Hunter. Stephen Shropshire was born on July 8, 1986 in McAlester to Arthur and Pam (Beshear) Shropshire. He grew up in this area and attended Haywood School through the 8th grade, then attended Stuart School, where he graduated with the class of 2004. He joined the National Guard in 2004 and served one tour of duty in Afghanistan. He received an associate's degree from Eastern Oklahoma State College and then earned a bachelor's degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Stephen worked at Atwood's while he was in high school, then later worked at Fenton Nissan. Most recently, he was a Security Manager with the Choctaw Nation and worked at various casinos in Southeastern Oklahoma. Stephen was known among his family and friends for his quick wit and sense of humor. His favorite pastime was playing board games, exchanging dad jokes and hanging out with his two children. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time at the gun range and vacations at the beach. Stephen is survived by his children, Irelyn Haylie Shropshire and Mase Dewayne Shropshire; his parents, Pam and Arthur Shropshire; and his brother and sister-in-law Jonathan Lee and Janell Nicole Shropshire and their children, Oakley Alan and Stetson Lee. He is also survived by his children’s mother, Leslie Blankenship and her husband, Jordan Blankenship, and Jordan's son, Nolan, as well as uncles and aunts: Greg Beshear and his wife Rhonda; Edmond Shropshire and his wife, Shelly; Bobby Shropshire and his wife, Trish; Richard Shropshire; Jack Shropshire and his wife, Ann; Trina Doyle; and too many cousins and friends to list. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Pete and Edwina Shropshire, Carrol and Reva Beshear and his great-grandmother, Anna Brown.
