Submitted by: Carol Rice

Bennie Dale Reid, 84, of Arpelar, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2025 at his home, with his family at his side. Viewing for friends at family will be Thursday and Friday. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 10, at 10:00 a.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Chapel, with Terry Brinkley and Charles Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Arpelar Cemetery. Pallbearers are Kolby Hackler, Daniel Harper, Richard Bivin, George Heaslet, Jonathan O’Dell and Tracy Adam. Honorary pallbearers are Tommy Cue, Carl Sanders, Joe Delaune, Dee Smart, John Lalli, and the rest of the men of Haywood Baptist Church. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Hospice of McAlester, or Haywood Baptist Church. Bennie Reid was born on February 17, 1941, in Lawn, Texas, to Woodrow Wilson Reid and Ola Orene (Osborn) Reid. After graduating from high school, he attended college where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business. He soon went to work for Texaco Oil Co. as a Sales Representative and then he formed and operated the McAlester Oil and Gas Company. After selling that company, he opened the Arpelar Country Store in Arpelar and ran that for several years. But his real passion was horses. He bred, raised, and trained Paints/Quarter horses and was a long-time member of the American Paint Horse Association. Bennie had many champions, but his pride and joy was his 1992 racing champion horse Olympic Dancer. Bennie was a long-time member of the Haywood Baptist Church. He was also an excellent woodworker and loved to make wooden crosses and bowls for family and friends. His favorite past-time, though, was spending time with his family, whom he loved and cherished with all his heart. Bennie is survived by his wife, Julie Reid; his children and grandchildren, Tim B. Reid and wife Ande and their son Rodney James; Amy Somers and husband Trip and their children Alex and Logan, Derek Reid and wife Michelle and their children, Dylan, Michael and Madison and her husband Johnny; a sister-in-law, Judy Reid; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Roy D. Reid.
