© Davis Funeral Home Cushing, Oklahoma January 2005 Jesse Joe Luke Jr November 28, 1923 - January 27, 2005 Jesse Joe Luke, Jr., retired employee of the Culp and Copple Oil Company, passed away on Friday morning, January 27, 2005 in the Linwood Village Nursing Home at the age of 82 years. The son of the late Jesse Joe Luke, Sr., and Effie Clauson Luke, Joe was born on November 28, 1923 in Yale, OK and was reared and educated in the Yale Schools. He was united in marriage to Charlotte Lewis on July 15, 1946 in Cushing and she preceded him in death on November 12, 1984. Joe was married to Norma Leaverton on April 12, 1985 in Miami and she survives him of the home. Following his discharge from the United States Air Force in 1945, he spent a short time as a dozer operator, and later for Roy Kemp prior to starting with the Culp and Copple Oil Company. He started working as a pumper and worked his way up to the operational field manager, retiring after working for them for over 50 years, in 1990. Joe loved challenges in the oil industry and was known for his ability to solve whatever might come up. He was a charter member of the Elks Lodge; a veteran of World War II, earning many honors and decorations including, good conduct medal, Mediterranean Theater Operations with 4 battle stars, 2 unit citations, 5 air medals, distinguished flying cross, purple heart and he had flown over 45 missions as engineer gunner. He enjoyed camping and working with his lathe in making parts for various people and companies, relating to the oil industry. Joe is survived by his wife of over 21 years, Norma of the home; two sons Robert Max Leaverton and wife Ava of Mannford and Jess Leaverton/Vera of Glen Haven, CA; one daughter, Janet Moore of Stillwater; his adopted family, Jay Culp and wife Cathy and Christie Foster and husband Jay all of Cushing and Diana Wheat and her husband Bill of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Lori Kastl and husband Brad of Perkins, Jody Cundiff and husband Travis of Pawnee, Brett Moore and LeeAnn Dotter both of Stillwater, Ted Jenkins and wife Lisa, Brandi Ground and husband Mike and Cody Jenkins all of Mannford; one great-granddaughter Hailey Kastl of Perkins; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his first wife, Charlotte and one brother, Marvin Luke. Services will be held Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. in the First Baptist Church with Reverend Terry Tharp, of Good News Community Church of Perkins, officiating. Burial will follow in the Underwood Cemetery at Yale. |
