February 7, 1925 ~ November 22, 2009


Leo Dale Harting was born Feb. 7, 1925, in Morrison to Earl Harting and Verlinda Moore Harting. He passed from this life on Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, in Pawnee, having reached the age of 84 years, 9 months and 15 days. He has been a longtime farmer in the Glencoe area. Leo is survived by his wife of 25 years, Mary B. Harting, Glencoe; two stepsons, Frank Harting, formerly of Stillwater, and Mike Smith and his wife, Fran, Pawnee; three stepdaughters, Beverly McGinty and her husband, Criss, Glencoe, Trudi Rashid and her husband, Khalid, Tulsa, and Patty Smith, Glencoe; one sister, Monica Helzer and her husband, Gary, Anaheim, Calif.; and a number of other relatives and many friends.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Verlinda Harting; his brother, Harvey Harting; and his sister, LaVann Keesee.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, at the Church of Christ in Glencoe with Michael Chase and Curt Anderson officiating. Pallbearers will be David St. Clair, David Duncan, Donnie Viet, Mike Kerr, Rod Davis and Randy Shiever.Honorary pallbearers will be Khalid Rashid, Ty McGinty, Tyson Helzer, Criss McGinty and Mike Smith.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Stillwater, under the direction of Poteet Funeral Home of Pawnee.

Mary [Burr] Harting
April 30, 1929 - September 3, 2016


Mary Burr Harting, 87, of Glencoe, OK passed away on September 3, 2016 in Broken Arrow, OK.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at the Church of Christ in Glencoe, OK with Pastor Curt Anderson officiating.

Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Stillwater, OK. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

She was born on April 30, 1929 in McAlester, OK to Daniel Ira Burr and Clarica Pearl [Moore] Burr. She married Horace L. "Smitty" Smith in Holdenville, OK in 1948 and they had five children.

Smitty preceded her in death in 1973.

She married Leo Dale Harting in Glencoe, OK in 1984. Leo preceded her in death in 2009.

She attended St. John’s High School in McAlister, and was a cheerleader and a member of the Oklahoma Senate Page Program. She received an associate’s degree from Oklahoma A & M College where she continued her interest in government service and was on former governor George Nigh’s debate team. She was the 1948 campus sweetheart also.

She was a life member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars, Post 1843 in Glencoe. She was the director of the “Friday Night Music” in Glencoe for many, many years. She was a homemaker and a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a talented cook and gardener and enjoyed feeding and watching birds. She loved music and decorating for the holidays.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands; one daughter, Mary Evelyn Rexwinkle; two brothers, William John Burr and her twin brother, Daniel Maurice Burr and his wife Juanita Lee; and one sister, Sarah Ann Burr Kinder and her husband John.

She is survived by her son, Michael L. Smith and his wife Fran of Pawnee, OK; three daughters, Beverly Anne McGinty and her husband Criss of Glencoe, OK, Trudi Marie Rashid and her husband Khalid of Broken Arrow, OK and Patricia Ann Smith of Eufala; one brother, David Patrick Burr of Oklahoma City, OK; 6 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Kahlid Rashid, Criss McGinty, Ty McGinty, Paul Kinder, Gerry Kinder, and Alan Heatherington. Honorary Pallbearers will be Sean Kinder and Michael L. Smith.

Leroy Eugene Harting
May 7, 1932 ~ June 23, 2008


Leroy Eugene Harting, 76, of Stillwater, died on Monday, June 23, 2008, in Stillwater. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday in Calvary Assembly of God Church with Pastor Rusty Rhoads and Pastor Tony Arthur officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was born on May 7, 1932, in Stillwater, to Carl Charley Harting and Mary Ethel [Rice] Harting.

He married Pauline Bateson on Jan. 14, 1955, in Perkins. She preceded him in death on March 7, 1996.

He married Alana Ilene Smith Sadler on April 16, 1998, in Stillwater.

He worked as a driller for Unit Drilling from 1953 until 1968 and later as a carpenter. He was manager for 51 East Water for 34 years until his retirement. He enjoyed farming and ranching.

He was a member of the Calvary Assembly of God Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Eddie Leroy Harting; and two sisters, Lorene Yiengst and Imogene Bateson.

He is survived by his wife, Alana Ilene Harting of Stillwater; one son, Eugene Wayne Harting and his wife, Ruth, of Stillwater; three grandchildren, Jason Dwayne Harting and his wife, Joni, of Stillwater, Jennifer Crawford and her husband, Jason, of Coweta and Crystal Harting and Darryl of Stillwater; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Doris Snow of Ramona, Calif. and Laverne Turnbow of Stillwater; one brother, Delbert Harting of Stillwater; three stepdaughters, Ruby Kerntke and her husband, Robert, Julia Arthur and her husband, Tony, and Gena Manning; nine step grandchildren; 12 step great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers will be Dale Bateson of Perkins, Dean Bateson of Maryland, David Bateson of Perry, Richard McItyre of Stillwater, Kevin Harting of Stillwater and Mike Bowden of Vinita.
