© Strode Funeral Home Stillwater, Oklahoma March 2001 Viola J. [Nelson] Hand August 22, 1911 ~ March 26, 2001 Viola J. Hand, 89, died Monday, March 26, 2001, in Stillwater. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Strode Chapel with Pastor J. O. Williams officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Strode Funeral Home. She was born Sept. 22, 1911, to Hans and Anna [Jensen] Nelsen in Chicago, Ill. She attended high school in Chicago and received her diploma from business school. She married Frank Hand, Dec. 19, 1946, in Michigan. They later divorced. She worked as a secretary for Downbeat Music in Chicago, Sager Glove in Gilman, Ill., and Louis Melind Rubber Stamp Co. in Onarga, Ill. She retired in the 1970s and became a homemaker. She lived in Danforth, Ill., until 1993, then moved to Stillwater to be closer to her daughter. She loved reading, working puzzles and camping with her family. She was a member of the Lutheran Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Ann Nelsen and one brother, Ray Nelsen. Survivors include: one daughter, Joyce Shields and her husband Ralph of Stillwater; one son, Richard Glenn Hand and his wife Genese of Chicago, Ill.; five grandchildren, Troy Shields of Odessa, Texas, Ronda Shields-Fisher of Sapulpa, John Shields of Glenpool, Keith Hand of Chicago, Ill. and Glenese Hand of Chicago, Ill. |
