Paul Percel Powell, Jr., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008 at the age of 79 years.
He was the youngest son of the late Paul Percel Powell and Lula Mae Schlegel.
He was born December 4, 1928 in Cushing, OK.
Paul attended Wilson Elementary School and graduated from Cushing High School in 1946. After serving 16 months in the U.S. Army, he attended and graduated from the University of Tulsa in January, 1952.
While attending college he met and married Virginia Charlotte Holmes on July 4, 1951.
After graduation Paul spent nearly 20 years working in the oil business. He retired in December, 1990, after teaching 18 ½ years in the Cushing School system.
Paul was affiliated with the Methodist Church; a 32nd Degree Mason, Consistory at Tulsa; a member of the V.F.W. and a registered engineer.
Survivors include his wife Virginia of over 58 years, of the home; two daughters, Carrilee Powell Testerman and husband Ed of Cushing, Ginny Mae Powell of Houston, TX, and one son Paul Percel Powell and his wife Cheri Dill Powell of Cushing; four grandchildren, Carrianne Testerman of Cushing, Lindsey Testerman Schneider and husband Matt of Fargo, OK, Paul Percel Powell IV and Tiffany of Cushing and Dallas Daun Grizzle and husband Mike of Cushing; great-grandchildren, Kinsley Brooke Schneider of Fargo, OK., Katelynn Ann Powell of Cushing and Weston Matthew Schneider of Fargo, OK.; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Sumner Odell Powell; two sisters, Cynthia Powell Seaba and Thelma Powell Waddell, and one great-granddaughter Angel Grizzle.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008 at 11 A.M. in the Fairlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for memorial contributions to be used for future scholarships to be given to the athletic department of Cushing High School. You may mail memorials to Paul Powell III, 1005 East Grandstaff, Cushing, OK 74023.
