Kenneth Arnold "Kenny" Nelson
April 25, 1956 ~ January 15, 2011

Kenneth A. Nelson, 54, of Perkins, Okla. died on January 15, 2011, at his home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. on January 22, 2011, at the First Baptist Church in Perkins, Okla., with Reverend Buster Holder officiating. Graveside services will follow at Glenwood Cemetery NE of Perkins, Fairgrounds Road. Services are under the direction of Strode Funeral Home.

Ken "Kenny" was born April 25, 1956, to Kenneth and Georgia Nelson in Stillwater, Okla.

Growing up, he excelled at many sports, was actively involved in FFA where he was on the Meat's Judging Team and placed within the top rankings at National Contests, as well as very active in leadership positions throughout high school and college.

He had a passion for raising and showing Duroc's and loved raising farm animals.

He had a great love for his country and was a very patriotic man who served in the Marines for a short time.

He graduated from Perkins-Tryon High School in 1974 and completed his B.S. Degree in 1978 with a degree in Agronomy and in Dec. 2006 completed his M.S. degree in Range Management, both from Oklahoma State University. He was an "OSU Cowboy" through and through and loved to watch all sports whether it be football, baseball, basketball, or wrestling. Ken was an extremely hard worker and always gave 110% at anything he attempted to do.

After graduation from OSU in 1978, he moved to Northwest Oklahoma working for a farming and feed lot operation. It is here that he met Lynette Shuck Nelson and they were married in the Elm Grove Assembly of God Church at Chester on Aug. 2, 1980. To this union, two wonderful children were born, Aleisha Elaine in 1982 and Eric Kenneth in 1987. The family lived in Fairview, Okla., from 1980 to 1991, where he worked for the Major County Conservation District. In March 1991, the family moved back to Perkins at which time he began working for the Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources at OSU. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Ken loved the outdoors and always took time to appreciate the wonders and beauty of all of God's creation around him. He enjoyed gardening with his father in the summer and found pleasure in sharing the abundance of produce with family and friends. He was an avid sportsman and loved to hunt and fish. He had many fond memories and loved to tell stories of the many hunting and fishing adventures he shared with his children and in-laws.

He loved taking vacations with his family and traveling to new places but the most precious thing to him was spending time with his children and being involved in their many activities. They were his greatest joy. On January 19, 2009, his joy expanded with the birth of his first grandchild Presley Elaine, who he adored. He loved watching Aleisha and Eric as they competed in sports and rarely missed any event they participated in. In 1998 and 1999, he coached the "Bandits" football team, a group of young boys for whom he set a good example in shaping their lives as they grew into young men. He always had such pride in watching them as they grew up and played football together on the Demon football team.

Ken found much pleasure in always helping others. He was a very giving person of his time and always there to help a friend in need. Ken touched the lives of many and will always be remembered as an adoring son, brother, husband, father, uncle, and friend.

Ken is survived by his two children, Aleisha Elaine and Eric Kenneth, the mother to his children, Lynette Nelson, one granddaughter Presley Elaine, all of Stillwater; his father Kenneth W. Nelson of Perkins, three sisters, Marilyn Wolfe and husband Ted of Perkins; Linda Vassar and husband Wayne of Montrose, Mo.; Merry Gaff of Jet, many nieces, nephews, extended family, and a host of friends. Ken is preceded in death by his mother, Georgia M. Nelson, niece Mindy Wolfe Waren, and brother-in-law Bill Gaff.

Memorials may be given in his name to the Oklahoma Blood Institute 901 N. Lincoln Bld., Oklahoma City, OK 73104.
