September 1949 Barrett Jackson "B J" Needels January 12, 1864 ~ September 13, 1949 When he was 12 years old, BJ's left hand was severed as he was working in his father's sawmill. He wore a hook for a hand and got along quite well with it. After moving to Perkins, and later Stillwater, Oklahoma, Barret was a mail carrier until his retirement. He will always be remembered and missed by his family. |
© Stillwater News Press Stillwater, Oklahoma June 10, 1946 Reprinted with Permission Althea Alice [Prior] Needels April 9, 1868 ~ June 9, 1946 "Mrs. Needels Rites Tuesday- Funeral services for Altha Alice Needels, 79,who died Sunday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Edith Scheuerman, 818 West 10th Avenue, will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the United Brethren church. Rev. C.F. Hanold will officiate. Burial will be in the Glenwood cemetery under the direction of the Strode Funeral home. Althea Alice Prior was born April 9, 1868, at Sedalia, Mo., the daughter of George and Elsa Prior. On February 26, 1883, she was married to Barrett J. Needels at Alma, Kansas. As a child, she went with her parents to Alma and, after marriage, came to Oklahoma in 1901, settling on a farm north of Eden Chapel church, southeast of Stillwater. She was a member of the United Brethren church. In 1910, the family moved to Stillwater, residing here since that time. Survivors include four sons and six daughters; Mrs. Laura M. Robinson, Richland, Mo.; Charles E. Needels, Olpe, KS, Oliver A. Needels, Vaughn, N.M.; Mrs. Ella L. Lynn, Blackwell; Mrs. Estella N. Connelley, Quincy, Calif.; Clarence H. Needels, 212 E. 3rd avenue, Stillwater; Mrs. Renna A. Graves, Fort Scott, KS; W.E. Needels, southeast of Stillwater; Mrs. Scheuerman, and Mrs. Hazel M. Daugherty, 611 Admiral Road, Stillwater. Two sisters, Mrs. J. A. Rice, Venice, Calif.; and Mrs. J. A. Burnett, route 2 Perkins. Also 28 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren and two great, great-grandchildren. One son, Denzil Clifton Needels, and one daughter, Mrs. Gladys M. Leslie, preceded their mother in death. |
