© Palmer Marler Funeral Home Cushing, OK - Payne and Lincoln County November 2015 Raymond Marion Burnett 1917 ~ 2011 Raymond Marion Burnett passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Stillwater Medical Center at the age of 94. Graveside services are planned for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at Glenwood Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Palmer Marler Funeral Home. Family will receive friends in a formal visitation from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Funeral Home. Mr. Burnett was born January 7, 1917 to Jonathan and Emma [Pryor] Burnett in the High Prairie Community of rural Perkins. He grew up in that community and attended the one-room school at High Prairie. The family consisted of 5 sons, Roy, Harry, Charlie, Bob and Raymond. There were also 5 daughters, Bessie [Devore], Flora [Roberts], Lillie [Travor], Ida [Taylor], and Ethel [Edmondson]. The family worked hard at all the usual things associated with farm life and providing for the family. On November 17, 1942 Raymond was inducted into the U. S. Army and served his country during World War II, seeing combat in France, Germany, and many other parts of the world. He received numerous medals including the American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon with one Silver Service Star, Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. He was discharged on December 2, 1945 and returned to his home in rural Perkins. In 1946, he married Sylvia [Schornick] Honeyman and with this union gained three step children; Mary Lou [Ingram-Harrison], Shirley Jean [White] and Melvin C. "Butch" Honeyman. He [along with Sylvia] raised the children as his own so in every respect he was "Dad" for ever more and he was very much loved. Raymond was dedicated to his country and very patriotic. For him it was all about God, Country, the Freedom He Fought For, and Family. He loved his family very much and was always there to assist anyone needing his help in any way. He was involved in his community and always wanted to help make it a better place. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, his sisters, a stepson, and a stepdaughter. He is survived by one daughter, Mary Lou Harrison and her husband George of the home, 11 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild, Bentley Ingram, as well as a host of other family and friends.
