© Poteet Funeral Home Pawnee, Oklahoma August 18, 1998 Lloyd Meryl Porter March 4, 1919 ~ August 18, 1998 PAWNEE - Lloyd Meryl Porter, 79, was among the first men drafted in Pawnee county during World War II. He died Tuesday, August 18, 1998, in Pawnee. Mr. Porter was born on March 4, 1919, west of Stillwater to Charles Henry Porter and Kate Marie [Adams] Porter. He later moved with his family to the Glencoe and Pawnee area in December of 1938. He married Anna Lucille Shell on December 14, 1948 in Chandler, Oklahoma. They moved to a farm near Glencoe. He enjoyed meeting people, playing his fiddle with family and friends and traveling. While in the United States Army he served with the 45th Division Field Artillery in Africa, Sicily, Italy, France and Germany. He was awarded the Purple Heart in France. He owned and operated a dairy northeast of Glencoe. He later raised beef cattle until he retired in 1998. Survivors include his wife, Anna Porter of the home in Glencoe; two sons, Jimmie Porter of Glencoe and Eddie Porter of Oklahoma City; two step-daughters, Loa-Lee Creager of Pawnee and Loweta Shamel of Sand Springs. Also surviving are one sister, Thelma Cullers of Stillwater; three brothers, his twin Veryl Porter of Stillwater; Charles Porter Jr. of Stillwater; and Max Porter of Glencoe; an aunt, Lucille Grenner of Oklahoma City; an uncle, O. C. Porter of Guthrie; thirteen grandchildren and thirty one great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and many friends. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 21, at the Glencoe Church of Christ with Ken Mantle officiating. Interment will be in Glencoe Cemetery under the direction of Poteet Funeral Home, Pawnee. |
