Perry "Red" Stokes

Perry “Red” Stokes, also known to his family and friends as Papa Red and Billy Clark, passed away on Friday, July 3, 2009, at the age of 80 years.

The son of the late Dale Watts Stokes and Mary Ann (Clark) Stokes, Red was born on December 24, 1928 in Cushing, OK and was reared and educated in this area, graduating from Cushing High School.

Red entered the United States Army at an early age and following his honorable discharge returned to Cushing and was united in marriage to Ruby Warner on April 16, 1955.

He had worked for the Postal Service for almost fifty years; he enjoyed talking to people, reading, and was an avid University of Oklahoma fan.

Survivors include his wife of over 54 years, Ruby of the home; his children, John Stokes and his wife Heather of Cushing and Perri Lynn Thompson of Cushing; seven grandchildren, Jack Thompson, Max Thompson, Kate Thompson, Scout Thompson, Ben Stokes, Brady Stokes and Brenlea Stokes; a half-brother Mike Flournoy of Kansas, and other relatives and friends including his special family at the post office.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Rodney & Edna Clark who raised him as a child.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2009 at 3 P.M. in the First Christian Church with Dr. Gary Detrich officiating.

Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery.
