Gary Wayne Somers

Gary Wayne Somers, Wellston resident, passed away on March 16, 2009 in Oklahoma City at the age of 61 years.

The son of the late John Jacob Somers and Rhoda Mae Belveal Somers, Gary was born on February 7, 1948 in Cushing where he was reared and educated, graduating from Cushing High School.

Gary was united in marriage to Ernestine Myers on April 15, 1967 in Cushing. To this union three children, Gary, John and Lisa, were born.

He served his country in the United States Army from November 1967 to October 1969, when he was honorably discharged.

Gary attended church at the Church on the Rock in Chandler.

He loved to hunt, fish and spend time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of almost 42 years, Ernestine, of the home; two sons, Gary Wayne Somers, Jr. and his wife Jana of Tryon and John David Somers and his wife Crystal of Agra; one daughter, Lisa Kaye Longbrake and her husband Eric of Cushing; eleven grandchildren, Colton, Cassie, Dekota, Ashleigh, Cody, John David, Jr., Josh, Jacob, Chloe, Emily and Ethan; three brothers, David Dwinell, Daniel Dwinell and John Somers; one sister, Etta Mae Welch and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by a nephew, Carl Dwinell.

Services will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. at the Church on the Rock in Chandler with Pastor Ron Keeling, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery, Cushing.

Serving as casketbearers will be Colton Somers, John David Somers, Jr., Cody Mehan, Mark Williams, Tommy Harrington, Jamie Williams and Roy Dabbs. Honorary casketbearers will be Dekota Somers, Josh Somers and Jacob Somers.

The family will greet friends on Friday evening from 5-7 in the Floyd Family Center, east of the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Cancer Research, 825 Northeast 13th Street, Oklahoma City OK 73104, in his honor.
