Jack D. Smith, former Cushing resident, passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2006 in Meza, Arizona at the age of 77 years.
The son of the late Roy W. Smith and Burna Scott Smith, Jack was born on June 3, 1929 in Cushing, Oklahoma and was reared and educated in Cushing.
Jack was a Veteran of the Korean War.
He was an alumni of Oklahoma State University.
He owned and operated businesses in Cushing and Enid and also worked on oil rigs.
Jack worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, serving the Ft. Apache Indian Reservation in the White Mountains of Arizona and the Caddo-Kiowa Comanche Tribes in Anadarko, Oklahoma, retiring after 25 years.
He went on to receive his real estate license and worked at Sue Boswell Real Estate. He spent his retirement years in Arizona. He loved to travel, golf, do water aerobics, fish and being involved in Meals on Wheels, Old Men’s Club, YMCA, Rotary Club and Small Business Association.
Jack was famous for his secret B-B-Q sauce and grilling.
Survivors include his wife of over 57 years, Doris Smith of the home; three daughters, Tawana Lansa and her husband Jon of Albuquerque, NM, Teresa Aquirre and her husband Fred of Las Vegas, NV and Tama Puhr and her husband Rory of Harwood, N.D.; eight grandchildren, Roy W Smith II and his wife Dixie, Jonathan Lansa and his wife Deanna, Fred Aquirre and his wife Melissa, David Lansa and his wife Asium, Banyn Puhr, Cody Puhr, Lia Aguirre\ and Tessa Lansa; 6 great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by one son, Terry Smith.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, July 13, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. in the Fairlawn Cemetery. A visitation will be held Wednesday evening, July 12, from 4-8 p.m.
