Dorothy Owens, lifelong resident of Cushing, passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2007 at the age of 88 years.
The daughter of the late Newton C. Fry and Lillian M. Harris Fry, Dorothy was born on February 25, 1919 in Cushing and was reared and educated here, graduating from Cushing High School.
She was united in marriage to Ralph Rhodes on November 21, 1937 and he preceded her in death on March 10, 1987. She married Howard Owens on February 18, 1989 and he preceded her in death on February 6, 2006.
Dorothy was a member of the First Baptist Church and for many years had been involved with the clothes closet ministry and director of the Keenager group. She was also very instrumental in starting the Christmas in July event at the church.
She enjoyed camping, fishing, working with crafts, playing bridge at the Senior Citizen Center and volunteering time at the Silver Lining.
Dorothy was a member of the Historical Society, serving as various offices over the years.
Survivors include her children, Steve Rhodes and his wife Debby of Burkburnett, TX, James Howard Owens and his wife Mary Lou of Mustang, OK, Dr. Thomas Owens and his wife Linda of Drumright, and Carol Sue Allred and her husband Robert of Harker Heights, TX; one brother Chester Fry and his wife Chloe of Lone Grove, OK; grandchildren, David Rhodes of Paris, TN, Becky Dobson and her husband Bob of Muskogee, Paul Allred and his wife Caryn of Dallas, TX, Teresa Isakson and her husband Kyle of Grapevine, TX, Nancy Curtis and her husband Carlton of Norman, Scott Allred of Richardson, TX, Daniel Owens and his wife Becky of Tulsa and Gayle Yost and her husband Chad of Carrolton, TX; one nephew Larry Fry and his wife Rose of Lone Grove, OK; two nieces, Mary Widener and her husband John of Cushing and Karen Lee and her husband Steve of Lone Grove, OK, and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and both husbands, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Glenna Evans and Verna Brookshire.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at 2 P.M. in the First Baptist Church with Dr. Tom Owens officiating.
Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery.
