Miller passed away Friday, December 5, 2008 in the Cushing Regional Hospital at the age of 91 years. The daughter of the late William Francis O’Kelley and Edda Jane Caruthers O'Kelley, Lorene was born on May 21, 1917, northeast of Cushing and was reared and educated in the Schlegal and Cushing area. She was united in marriage to Doyle Miller on August 9, 1937 in Cushing, and to this union two sons, Dennis Blake and Doyle Don were born. Doyle passed away on November 22, 2000, after 63 years of marriage. Lorene was a member of the First Baptist Church; a member of the O.C.A.W. Union Auxiliary; she was a talented artist and she enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She is survived by one son, Dennis Blake Miller and his wife Beverly of Tacoma, Washington; five grandchildren, Terrie Dawn Moore of Bozeman, MT, Douglas Scott Miller of Livermore, CA, Lucas Kelley Miller of Seattle, WA, Kyla Lorene Wong of Orlando, FL and Kelsey Layne Taylor of State College, PA; four great-grandchildren, Jesse Miller Moore, Erin Miller, Rachel Miller and Doyle Miller; one daughter-in-law Shirley Boyd of Las Vegas, NV., and other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Doyle Don Miller; two sisters and two brothers. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at 2 P.M. in the Memorial Chapel of the Davis Funeral Home with Jack Matthews officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery |
Cushing, Oklahoma April 2011 April 4, 1928 ~ April 17, 2011 Basil Lee Miller, 83, a resident of Friendswood, Texas for the past 42 years passed away April 17, 2011. Basil was born April 4, 1928 in Drumright, Oklahoma to Johnny Miller and Lureba Chase Miller. Basil grew up and attended school in Cushing Oklahoma. During his high school years Basil worked at the Cushing Airport and lacked only a few hours having a private pilot license. He had a lifelong interest in aviation and was often seen at Cloverfield Airport talking with pilots or just watching planes take off and land. Basil graduated from Cushing High School in 1946. He married Marceille Bunch on October 19, 1949. They were married for 61 ½ years. He was a kind and gentle man who loved his family dearly. Basil retired from Texas Pipeline Company in 1983. After retirement Basil loved being outdoors and for several years enjoyed camping trips with his wife. He had a small boat and spent many enjoyable hours fishing with his son Basil John. He also collected Case knives. Basil was always in church on Sundays and on Wednesdays as well. He was an usher at Christian Temple in Houston for many years. In recent years he was active in senior groups at Christian Temple in Houston and later at Calvary Chapel in Friendswood. Sundays were made for church and football games. He loved to watch the Cowboys and both teams from his beloved Oklahoma. Basil was preceded by death by his mother and father, son, Mitchell Charles Miller, grandson, Randy Edward Surface, and brother-in-law, Bob Maston. Honorary Pallbearers include Marvin Briggs, Jerry Brown, Frank Foster, Ian Guthrie, Travis Ray Waggy. Basil is survived by his loving his wife of 61 years, Marceille Faye Bunch Miller; daughter, Marcia Lea Miller Surface and husband Charles E. Surface of Webster, Texas; daughter, Marta Lynn Miller Bicknell of Friendswood, Texas; and son, Basil John Miller of Houston, Texas. Sister; Bonnie Miller Maston. Grandchildren: Christopher Surface and wife Lindsay Surface, Daniel Bicknell and wife Holly Bicknell, Michelle Surface Pfister and husband Deacon Pfister. Great Grandchildren: Noah Surface, Kaitlyn Surface, Kara Surface, Joshua Bicknell, Elissa Bicknell, Caleigh Bicknell, and Dylan Pfister. Graveside services will be held Friday, April 22, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Fairlawn Cemetery with Rev. Robert Adams, pastor of the First Assembly of God Church, officiating. |
© Davis Funeral Home Cushing, Oklahoma Printed With Permission December 1978 July 30, 1938 ~ December 28, 1978 Doyle Don Miller, 40, Shawnee, died December 28, 1978 in the Shawnee Hospital. He was born on July 30, 1938 in Cushing and was reared here, having attended Cushing schools, graduating from Cushing High School with the class of 1956. He served four years in the Air Force. On May 2, 1958, he married the former Shirley Whipkey, in Cushing. The couple lived in Las Vegas, Nevada until last August, when they moved to Shawnee. He was a member of the Parkdale Baptist Church, in Las Vegas. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of the home, a daughter, Terri Miller, of Las Vegas, a son, Douglas, of the home, his parents Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Miller, of Bethany and a brother Dennis, of Tacoma, Washington. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in Cushing with Rev. Lester Lunday, of the Oak Grove Baptist Church officiating. Interment was in the Fairlawn Cemetery, Cushing, Oklahoma. |
