© Davis Funeral Home Cushing, Oklahoma Printed With Permission September 2011 May 8, 1912 ~ September 1, 2011 William Lawrence McKnight, retired banker, passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2011 in the Linwood Village Nursing Home at the age of 99 years. The son of the late, Ora Blaine McKnight and Grace Lee Young McKnight, Bill was born on May 8, 1912 in Rose Hill, KS, and was raised and educated in Oxford, Kansas, graduating from Oxford High School, later receiving his Bachelors Degree from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. He was united in marriage to Julia May Kennedy on November 27, 1936, and to this union three children, William, Patricia and Michael were born. The couple came to Cushing in 2000, and he had lived here since that time. Julia preceded him in death on April 27, 2007. Bill enjoyed the banking business and had owned several banks in Oklahoma, Arizona and Missouri prior to his retirement. He was known for rebuilding banks which were in trouble. He was a longtime member of the Baptist Church and was a veteran of the United States Marines, serving in 1944 and 1945. He was an avid reader of his Bible and spent a lot of time in his Bible studies. In addition to his parents and wife, William was preceded in death by one son, Michael K. McKnight; one brother and three sisters. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. in the Fairlawn Cemetery with Ralph Hickman officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, Services are under the direction of the Davis Funeral Home. |
© Davis Funeral Home Cushing, Oklahoma Printed With Permission April 2007 December 26, 1916 ~ April 21, 2007 Julia May Kennedy McKnight, Cushing resident, passed away Saturday evening, April 21, 2007, in Linwood Village at the age of 90 years. The daughter of the late Marvin Granville Kennedy and Erma Forster Kennedy, Julia was born on December 26, 1916 in Hardin, Ray County, MO. She was united in marriage to William L. McKnight on November 27, 1936. To this union three children, William, Patricia and Michael were born. She attended Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, KS where she met her husband and also attended Central Missouri State Teachers College at Warrensburg, MO. She was a member of PEO Chapter AX of Cushing and a former chairman of Sun City Christian Women’s Club, affiliated with Stonecroft Ministries in Kansas City, MO. Survivors include her husband William of the home; two son’s, William L. McKnight II and his wife Gail of Cushing and Michael K. McKnight of Phoenix, AZ; one daughter Patricia V. Johnston and her husband Chet of Frankston, TX; four grandsons, Max McKnight and his wife Sandra of Chickasha, OK, Steve McKnight and his wife Kim of Cushing, Michael Johnston and his wife Judy of Tyler, TX and Brian Johnston and his wife Courtney of Tyler, TX; one granddaughter, Melissa Chumley of Lufkin, TX; nine great-grandchildren, Madison, Isaac, Cole, Mackenzie, Alexys, Lauren, Brittney, Matthew and Kim; three nieces, Cara Lee Gardner, Jane Campbell and Nancy Seitz and other relatives and friends. Services will be held Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. in the Davis Memorial Chapel with Dr. Lonny Lee officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery. The family will greet friends in the Floyd Family Center, East of the funeral home, Tuesday, April 24 from 4-6 pm. |
© Davis Funeral Home Cushing, Oklahoma Printed With Permission February 2024 March 4, 1943 ~ February 2, 2024 Phyllis "Gail" Chambers was born on March 4, 1943, to Andrew L. (Doc) and Freda P. (Young) Chambers in their home on the Texaco, Reynolds Lease, outside Oilton, OK. She passed into the arms of Jesus on February 2, 2024, with her loved ones by her side. In 1957 the family moved to Bristow, OK where she graduated from Bristow High School in 1961. After graduation, Gail met her "Knight" in Shining Armor, William L. (Bill) McKnight, II. They were married on December 22, 1961 at First Baptist Church Bristow, OK. Following Bristow they lived in Sedalia, MO, Westville, OK, Cushing, OK and Pauls Valley, OK. In Pauls Valley she was Financial Clerk for Pauls Valley Public Schools. She retired in 1998 after 22 years of service in the Administrative Office. After retirement Gail and Bill moved to Cushing, OK. She was a member of the Cushing First Baptist Church. Gail was known affectionately as Grandma Gail to people of all ages. Gail loved cooking and baking for her family and friends especially making butter cookies. After retiring, Gail's pastime was crocheting edges on flannel baby blankets and adult napping blankets for family and friends. She considered crocheting her therapy. She was preceded in death by her parents, A.L. (Doc) and Freda Chambers, her brother Gary Chambers and sister-in-law Patricia Chambers and her father and mother-in-law William L. and Julia McKnight. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Bill McKnight, son Max McKnight and his wife Sandra, son Steve McKnight and his wife Kim, grandchildren Madison Camp and her husband Clay, Isaac McKnight and his wife Dr. Shannon McKnight, Dr. Cole McKnight and his wife Gabbe, Mackenzie Williams and her husband Jonathan and Alexys McKnight. Also great-grandchildren Dean and Harry Camp. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cushing First Baptist Church Nursery Fund. Public Visitation Tuesday, February 6, 4:00 – 7:00 pm in the Matherly Davis Family Center. Funeral services Wednesday, February 7, 10:00 am, First Baptist Church, Cushing, OK – Graveside to follow at Fairlawn Cemetery. If you attend either event and were the recipient of one of her crocheted blankets you are encouraged to bring it with you. © Davis Funeral Home Cushing, Oklahoma Printed With Permission August 2008 November 22, 1946 ~ August 23, 2008 Michael Kennedy McKnight was born to William L. and Julia Kennedy McKnight, November 22, 1946 in the William Newton Hospital, Winfield, KS. He attended grade school in Winfield, Kansas and graduated from the Bristow, Oklahoma High School in 1964. After 1 year in college at NSU, Tahlequah, OK, he served four years in the US Navy, making three trips to Vietnam aboard the US Kitty Hawk. After his discharge he attended Oklahoma State Tech, Okmulgee, OK. from which he graduated in the early 1970’s. He spent most of his working life in the printing and proof reading profession and he retired from the Bowne Corp. in 2006. He resided in Phoenix, AZ. for the past fifteen years of his life. Michael died on August 23, 2008 in the Banner Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, AZ. from pulmonary embolism. He accepted the Lord as his personal Savior in 1995, in Phoenix, AZ. Michael leaves his father, William L. McKnight, a brother Bill McKnight and a sister Patricia Johnston and nephews and a niece plus many other family members and friends to mourn his loss. He will be missed. Graveside memorial services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008 at 10 A.M. in the Fairlawn Cemetery at Cushing with Ralph Hickman officiating. |
